Thread: PCV problems-Related to I/C

Just want to let you guys know, putting a breather on your vc will cost you fuel because you MUST adjust your tune.

I had what I thought was a belt squeak/squeal yesterday, while driving around town. All of this talk about blocked or restricted PCV's, has me paranoid...bass turds... Anyway today I threw on a Caspers breather, just in case it was PCV related It crapped on my fuel trims in the idle and cruise range big time. I'm seeing as high as 16.4 on hard decel and 10.9 at idle. On excelleration the trims are near what they were without the breather.

I have a long trip today and am going to put the oil cap back on, but take the breather along with me. I need to somehow determine if the noise was PCV related or not. The squeal is very intermittant and doesn't allow the typical test of removing the oil cap to see if the noise goes away.

I aasume PCV squeal is the built up gases needing to escape. I've already test the fresh air passage from the TB to the crankcase. Is there any reason why you couldn't theave the fresh air with PCV in the blower in tact and just mount a second PCV in the oil cap so excess presure could vent out, and therefore not have the fuel trim issues from having unmetered air from a breather?

Both.

Weird I put the cap back on, drove 250 miles yesterday and not squeaks or squeals. The fuel trims quickly returned to where they originally were.

no........the squeal is from air trying to enter the crankcase because of the vacuum pulled through the manifold.

That's what Dave said in his write-up too. So the potential oil leaking is not from gaskets blowing out but from being sucked in?
