and i rode for a day with no muffler and just a res till i picked up the new one, its not like real loud, but it got old real fast. i was done after a day. but then again, im not a kid any more, you may like it. so i wont judge you lol
Yeah I figured that you would have to do some modifications to put the brakes on there, I didnt think it would just be a bolt on swap. Also sorry for the confusion, I meant a dual exhaust setup like a stock GTP has, single all the way towards the back, then a Y pipe to dual tips. I hear the res/single muffler really is the cork in the Regals exhaust.

all you would have to do is buy a walker Y pipe and 2 new mufflers or not of your choice. and a bumper cut out.

im on the single muffler deal, it will get changed when i have mods worthy of dual exhaust. stock engine, wont matter much.

then on the other hand, idk if ill like how it sounds, as i like quiet, i heard a gxp stage 3 regal a while back had the factory (dual) slp cat back, and i must say, it sucked, sounded like someone was giving me a raspberry. and he had a IC, rockers with headers and a 3.1 pulley and tuned.

truth is these engines just dont sound good. it will never sound like a V8.

im really interested in seeing/hearing how loud your fiero will be, as you got nothing on there even close to exhaust lol it looks f ing great tho, you got some skills for sure.

Hey Thanks man! as this car will be my DD I do not want it too loud, especially drone. The Fiero will be comparable to open headers, probably just slightly quieter and a little smoother, but not much lol.

OK so today I have officially put 100 miles on the Regal, but now am having an issue. I have a P0742 code, TCC stuck on. The car will go through all the gears just fine and normal when I get on it, but when cruising, especially under load (uphill etc) it acts like the TC is strugling to stay engaged. Another thing I noticed is that yesterday, and earlier today my AFR reading was 12.1 at WOT, now tonight I noticed it reads 11.7 at WOT... not sure if there is reason to be concerned, but I found that interesting.

Now I am also curious about if I was to put a cone filter or "hot air intake" right onto the TB, what do you then do with this sensor? I am pretty sure it is the intake air temp sensor?

And after looking around under the hood a little bit I found some stray wires that were just 'hanging out' and have no idea what they are for, where they go, or if they are even necessary.

You can just drape the sensor over the throttle body so it doesnt interfere with anything. GLW the wires

i drilled a hole a popped the ait sensor in the pvc elbow i used. or you can zip tie it to the cone, or put it inside the cone.

Today I went and got my emissions testing done, and passed! The PO told me it had a dummy O2 so it shouldn't be a problem. They threw in a free $15 car wash too... Now today I put a big K&N cone filter on the TB so I could hear the blower, I left the IAT tucked up out of harms way. I did a couple WOT pulls and the wideband is now showing 12.7-12.9 AFR when yesterday it was 11.7-11.9, and the day before consistent 12.1. Are fluctuations like this normal? Could it have to do with the removal of the stock air box?

Another question is about the exhaust. The car has sd headers, catless 3" down pipe, and a high flow 3" cat, then the stock single cat-back. I have heard that this cat back can be a restriction with the regals because it is single. Regardless I will be changing the set up. I am thinking of putting either a 2.5 or 3" glasspack that is about 3 feet long where the resonator is, running 2.5 or 3" back from there to a Y pipe that split to either dual 2" or 2.25" tailpipes. I am not sure how loud and or ****ty this setup would be, but I will probably be finding out! And my final thing I am wondering is if replacing the cat-back exhaust would have an effect on the tune the car currently has? ... Still very happy with my purchase. IMO I got a great steal on a good car!

you need to tint them tail lights. and tint the windows for sure.

for 97 its in nice shape for sure.

this is 2 light coats of vht and 5 coats of clear. just enough make em cherry ish, and i masked off the reverse lights so they still have reason. more pics in my ride thread.

Yeah I like that look. Was going to tint for sure! Not sure if I like that spoiler or not though.. Do you know where I can buy the SLP dual exhaust fascia inserts? They stopped making them a couple years ago from what I hear.

pretty sure you can still get them. someone in my tread had one for sale or offered to sell it to me. i need a whole new bumper first or some body work done to it before i take on dual exhaust. and some engine mods to justify it.

edit: and the ass of these cars are more then plain jane. i got the spoiler for 20 bucks off a 97 being parted out, it was black as well.

if you ask me the trunk needs a lip or something on there, just to give it something.

Made my descision on the exhaust setup! I have a left over 2bolt flange from the speed daddy's that I put on my fiero motor, so I will take that, weld a 30" long core 3" glasspack I ordered today, run 3" after that back to a Y pipe that will split to dual 2.5" pipes back to dual 2.5in/out Thrush Turbo mufflers, and then a a set of those C6 Corvette resonated dual 3" tips. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos of many different exhausts, and an fairly sure this will be exactly what I am going for. Not really loud, and no droan or raspyness, but a decent little rumble to it. I think it is kind of funny that the cheapest mufflers sound the best.. Pics will come soon, I am going to start making my Y pipe tonight, and the whole setup throughout the week, the glasspack should be here by Thursday, and already got the mufflers from the local auto parts store. The guys there hook me up with employee discount so they were like $23 each! I would expect to be hooking the new cat-back system up sometime next week!

How my wideband is mounted in the dash..

Got some parts from work to start peicing my exhaust together. Found a good amount of 3" mandrel bends to work with. Glasspack should be here by Thursday, hopefully bolting the new cat-back on sometime next week.

I am curious if you know what the old owner bought to replace the Regal, because it looks like you got your hands a sweet ride with some well thought-out mods installed. Saves you time to concentrate on getting the little white hell machine rolling. Beautiful Regal, nice score.

    both some sweet rides man!!
i have been through the stupid po742 code.... there is a solenoid behind the side cover in your transmission, well.. actually there are lots of them, lol.. the one you are having the problem with is the torque converter clutch solenoid (tcc), it's probably all gunked up inside so it isn't letting the torque converter do its thing.
here's a writeup i used to fix the solenoid.. GM 4T65E solenoid shift valve replacement TCC/PWM EPC 1-2 2-3

and here's a diagram showing which solenoid i am talking about..

also, i have a 97 regal with only 100k on it, trans and motor is mine and the front seats are taken, but i have multiple parts left and the whole body in fair shape if you ever need anything!

Thanks for the info! And I will keep that parts in mind, I am sure something will come up.. The lights on the rearview mirror are missing, and the drivers window, only like to work sometimes, plus the drivers side rear doesnt work at all. glovebox latch is broken off too...

He got the car 2 years ago with the blown motor in the trunk, for $800, and being that he is an auto mechanic at a dealership he has down time, and the right equipment to work on stuff, this was a project car. From what I understand he is now building a Mustang. When he came by the other day to drop off some parts he found for the car he was driving a nice Mercedes, so I am assuming that is his DD.

I listened to just about every youtube video of exhaust on these 3.8L's and boy do most of them sound like a nasty wet fart.. I ordered a 30" glasspack through Ebay from Summit for like $48, it is the same length as the stock res (30"). From what I understand these mufflers are really quiet for aftermarket, and should make for a good deep tone. Jones Exhaust Muffler Glasspack 3" Inlet Outlet Steel Blank 30" Overall Len Ea | eBay

No I did not figure it out, but after doing some more looking around I am pretty sure it is a power wire that was ran at one point and time for a aftermarket speaker setup. The other end came out in the trunk.

And just for fun, here are some pictures of the exhaust build as it sits so far..
Here it all is roughly mocked up

And the progress I have made thus far
