OK so today I have officially put 100 miles on the Regal, but now am having an issue. I have a P0742 code, TCC stuck on. The car will go through all the gears just fine and normal when I get on it, but when cruising, especially under load (uphill etc) it acts like the TC is strugling to stay engaged. Another thing I noticed is that yesterday, and earlier today my AFR reading was 12.1 at WOT, now tonight I noticed it reads 11.7 at WOT... not sure if there is reason to be concerned, but I found that interesting.

Now I am also curious about if I was to put a cone filter or "hot air intake" right onto the TB, what do you then do with this sensor? I am pretty sure it is the intake air temp sensor?

And after looking around under the hood a little bit I found some stray wires that were just 'hanging out' and have no idea what they are for, where they go, or if they are even necessary.

    both some sweet rides man!!
i have been through the stupid po742 code.... there is a solenoid behind the side cover in your transmission, well.. actually there are lots of them, lol.. the one you are having the problem with is the torque converter clutch solenoid (tcc), it's probably all gunked up inside so it isn't letting the torque converter do its thing.
here's a writeup i used to fix the solenoid.. GM 4T65E solenoid shift valve replacement TCC/PWM EPC 1-2 2-3

and here's a diagram showing which solenoid i am talking about..

also, i have a 97 regal with only 100k on it, trans and motor is mine and the front seats are taken, but i have multiple parts left and the whole body in fair shape if you ever need anything!

Thanks for the info! And I will keep that parts in mind, I am sure something will come up.. The lights on the rearview mirror are missing, and the drivers window, only like to work sometimes, plus the drivers side rear doesnt work at all. glovebox latch is broken off too...

He got the car 2 years ago with the blown motor in the trunk, for $800, and being that he is an auto mechanic at a dealership he has down time, and the right equipment to work on stuff, this was a project car. From what I understand he is now building a Mustang. When he came by the other day to drop off some parts he found for the car he was driving a nice Mercedes, so I am assuming that is his DD.

Thinking just a thrush glasspack as long as i can get it.
I listened to just about every youtube video of exhaust on these 3.8L's and boy do most of them sound like a nasty wet fart.. I ordered a 30" glasspack through Ebay from Summit for like $48, it is the same length as the stock res (30"). From what I understand these mufflers are really quiet for aftermarket, and should make for a good deep tone. Jones Exhaust Muffler Glasspack 3" Inlet Outlet Steel Blank 30" Overall Len Ea | eBay

No I did not figure it out, but after doing some more looking around I am pretty sure it is a power wire that was ran at one point and time for a aftermarket speaker setup. The other end came out in the trunk.

And just for fun, here are some pictures of the exhaust build as it sits so far..
Here it all is roughly mocked up

And the progress I have made thus far
