I've disscussed this topic so many times but it's been a good while since I did my GS and now it's time for the LS. I remember the rear being easy to remove but the front being much more difficult. I know most of you have a GTP and I have a GS but they both are W-bodies so they should have the same process of removing/installing.

So what would be the easiest way to remove these mounts specifically the front? Im sure my impact will loosen the bolt and some tension off the mount but it won't allow the mount to fall free on it's own.

Rear should be a breeze beings though they should slide right out Once the rear of the subframe/cradle is dropped/lowered but what would be the best process for removing the front And getting those mounts outs?

    Any pics would help also.

    Thanks......

I had mine done at a shop for $180 labor. All I know is they did not drop the subframe completely. Use GM mounts!

Ide just drop the subframe. Take a 4x4 and use ratchet straps to hold up the engine and remove the lower nuts for the engine and trans mounts and remove the bolts holding in the steering rack and it will drop right out. There are also a few clips holding in the wire harness and maby the power steering lines. You can also clean up the subframe while its out. Probly take an hour tops to remove it.

Oh yea forgot to mention the ball joints.

why drop the whole sub frame? lower the back, change them, then lower the front and change them.....sounds easy enough in my head.......

K.i.s.s. Just like you would if your were doing a cam install from the fender area..drop one side of the subframe slightly..just enough where the bolts are still threaded in and the subframe is still holding on..stick a jack as well as jack stands underneath to prevent it from falling out..then with a jack underneath the otherside jack that side of the subframe up then completely remove the 2 bolts..replace the bushings..jack it up thread the bolts in.leave the jack and then vice versa and do it for the other side? Does that make sense?

Or this which would make it even easier... I've lowered the subframe enough and never had a issue with the bearings just falling out.

Damn, $180 ain't bad. I mean I would knock it out for somebody for that price or even cheaper but for a shop....they were being generous. Need more shops like them lol

This is definitely what I would do and have always did. I just do one end at a time. my only issue is getting the front mounts to come out. other than sitting here picking at these mounts/rubber theres gotta be an easier way

Yeah, I mean I know how to drop the cradle/subframe, its just getting the rubber out of the mount bore/housing

Im thinking drop the cradle and use a big socket to knock it out.

Wait, so when you lowered the fwd end of the subframe the mounts just fell out? No PB blaster or WD-40? I know the rear comes out pretty easy but the front is a pain

A big Socket or a big CHISEL? LOL. After 14yrs those mounts are pretty comfortable in their spot

You guys hyping me up lol. About a year ago I did my GS mounts and I had to use a air Hammer, like really. So on my LS im procrastinating about doing these mounts bc if I get in the middle of this job but cant get the mounts and or all the rubber out then not only will the new mounts fit properly but that'll be a problem bc my wife drives this car to work every morning.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
