Anyone ever do it? Had 2 brand new rear calipers strip out before the new copper washer deformed. I've never helicoiled anything at all, but that is likely my only choice if I want to drive my car again, or else buy new calipers for the 2nd time this weekend.

I don't think brakes is one of those things I would go an helicoil.

I agree that's a lot of pressure. If I had to I would re-thread them.

Do you have a warranty on them maybe just exchange them?

That would involve finding a bigger banjo bolt, and bigger brake lines. Not sure about the logistics of that, probably easier to get new calipers.

I emailed them and let them know the situation but I assume I'm SOL because it's not a defect even though I followed the included warning to torque them to my manufacturers specs.

Looks like helicoil isn't the best idea. Time-serts are, but that kit is $86, worth it for an engine block, not for a $100 set of calipers.

You might try stacking copper washers, in case you're bottoming out threads. Or perhaps just use one thinner washer so it would deform more easily. I've run into lines on all-aftermarket stuff that went both those ways.

There are still a good amount of threads in the caliper so I know I wasn't bottoming out. The washers they included were bigger dia, but same thickness as the one that came off. The calipers aren't aftermarket per se, they are just powder coated re-mans.

Yeah but what is up with local store prices recently? $86 each plus $30 core at Autozone, when the exact same ones are on RA for $106/pair shipped, core included.

In the last year alone I have probably saved close to $1000 from doing it that way.

There is also no reason to be worried about the core charge because you get it back anyway.

Advance guys know me anyway, but they actually love that I do it that way. I walk in, hand them my order number and walk out in a matter of minutes.... unless I sit around and BS with them.

I dont know where you shop calipers for me they are $27.99 with core returned without any coupons. If they stripped I would march right back in and get another one.

Price difference between a 97-03 and 04-08 GP on a rear caliper is around $40...

    Where is that?

Believe it or not prices can vary based just on ZIP code too.
