I unbolted rack from subframe and dropped subframe so rack was left hanging. Last yr I did trans swap on my Seville and I left rack attached to subframe and unbolted steering u-joint. Was told to do it that way on caddy. I think caddy rack has same 2 bolt setup. Seems to me letting rack hang from steering shaft would work on caddy? Had to pop off tierod ends on both cars and swaybar links. So I think both cars are basically the same for rack issues.

I think next time, you pop the balljoints and unhook the sway bar endlinks. Then you can leave the tie rods on the knuckles. That seems to help hold the rack up. The caddy is likely better to pull the bolt and take the rack on the cradle because of (depending on year) the abortion situation and that entire drivetrain usually has to come down to do engine or trans.

Well, u need to drop the subframe on both cars to pull the trans. I don't think reaching the 2 big rack mount bolts is as easy on caddy subframe. Maybe that's why they say drop rack and subframe on caddy? But this is not a cad website.
