Technically you and scotty are both off on your statements, since the mid/late 80's
Pontiac, buick and the like hasn't designed any engines. GM took the market and designed all of the engines for their B*tch companies that built cars to make GM rich. Then later gave them an excuse to file bankruptcy.
But the engines are specifically GM.
Not chevy or buick. Im with scotty though, they are designed more like the Chevy minus two cylinders.

And the duramax was designed by izuzu. Lol. Let's not attack that sh*tty subject

DIESEL ENGINES WERE DESIGNED BY A MAN BY THE LAST NAME DIESEL. Troll attempt, fail. And what in the design aside from the lifters is more like a chevy? Are saying i can use the parts to tipswap a chevy. Or that i can use 4.3 parts to get eid of the external oil passage?

Never said you could swap parts from a chevy to a 3.8. They have the 90° v6 design exactly like the chevy. Not like buick They had a wide designed intake.
The wide intake was actually a pontiac design.

And trolling I am not. I didn't say the diesel was designed by izuzu. Try reading for a change. The duramax diesel was designed by izuzu. Troll on.
His name was Rudolf diesel by the way.

Thanks ice. Hmm Learned something new.
GM has owned it since 1962 and sold it to kaizer/jeep in 1967.

Ok then ANY chevy design is actually a caddy/olds design as they camw out in 1949 and the 265 chevy was based off them, same engineer in fact. And i never claimed the duramax was designed by chevy, so mebbe YOU should try reading for a change

Ok you got me on the diesel comment, I misread your comment.
But, in 1908 david buick changed the name of his company to general motors and it has been since. So EVERY motor that has been in a buick since that time has been a GM engine. As with GMC, chevy, and all of its subsidiaries. They are all GM.
    Sorry for the threadjack.

I've got mine setup to shift at 6250, actually shifts closer to 6500.

Stock bottom end I wouldn't run much more than that on a daily basis.

All else fails, get another motor and balance the entire rotating assembly and rev the **** out of it.

i think I'll just tell him to shift at 6200rpm... limit at 6500. That sounds like a good compromise.... mine currently makes it peak power at 5200 rpm... so an extra 1000+ revs or so will do me nicely

they usually rev a little higher than the set point. i have mine set at 6200 and revs just a tad higher and other guys have said they have seen 100 to 150rmps more than the set point.

sorry but its a buick...it shares no architecture with the sbc based "chevy" v6 aside from them both being split journal on center v6 engines
it does however share every major component with its ancestors. you can bolt a 62 buick v6 head to an 09 SII...same bolt pattern...right down to the same 7/16ths threads in the cylinder deck.

the LC3/LG3/LN3/L27/SI L67/ and the SII (L26/36 and L67/32 are all buick decendants...not a damn one of em is a "clean sheet" design....you dont think gm fired all their engine guys that were champions of the turbo buick...no they rolled them into developing the v6 further. lotta buick enthusiast in GM...

plain point of this is that the 3800 is a direct buick v8/v6 descendant and shares little with the much younger chevy v6

Just not balanced very well from factory i hear
the balance issue is a mater of 3rd and 4th order harmonics from the close coupled rocking inherent in a 90* bank angle v6 (the sbc v6 also suffered from this)
....this extra NVH is removed by a more inherently stable 60* bank angle v6 as are ALL of gm's current v6 offerings
