Started driving my car today had it sitting on jackets for a week had to work on the struts. Started driving it and it started shifting really hard whether i am going easy or hammering it. It shifts a lil softer when i am driving it hard? Makes no since to me usually its the oposit? anyone got any ideas or how to fix this? Thanks

did you have the battery un hooked all week?
if so that could be the tranny re learning how you drive. it should settle down with in a day or 2.

The transmission is probably going into limp mode for some reason. Possibly completely unrelated to have the car on jack stands unless you knocked something loose.
The first thing to do is check your transmission fluid level and color. It should be completely full and the fluid should be a red color. Not pink, brown, black, etc.
You could then try making the transmission relearn the adaptive shifts by unhooking the battery for an hour or so. Then drive it really easy for the first 50 miles to allow the transmission to adapt the line pressures.
If all else fails, there is probably a trouble code stored in the PCM which will help pinpoint your issue.

it is a redish pink color. it is full of fluid.

You may need to get it professionally looked at, with the appropriate scan tools to monitor shift patterns and the transmission pressure. It seems like your trans pressure is constantly at max.

pop the hood and watch the engine as you shift it from P to R then to D, if its moving a lot, the mounts are shot.

Is there any way to bypass limp mode? Is there a way to turn it off? I changed the fluid and unhooked the battery. Still in limp mode.

Hi there new guy. Please post your symptoms, like how long it takes before slamming into gear etc. You might be able to use a shift kit to get around the issue w/o changing the solenoid. But we'll want a bit more info before making suggestions. Thanks

It is as though there is no first gear or fourth gear. The car starts sluggishly in second gear and I think goes to third. Obviously an automatic, and I can force first gear. I feel like I am almost driving a stick shift. Still can't force higher gears. It is ok for driving around town, but too many RPMs on the highway. Thanks for the link to the kits. I'll check them out.

It happened to me. Mechanic changed a valve in the transmission. It was an electronic valve as I recall. That fixed the problem for me.

Those are called shift solenoids, and if that was easily diagnosed for vbiagas's car, there was likely a shift solenoid code, which made for an easy and direct diagnosis if you will. You could check for codes after the problem has occurred as many transmission codes reset with the key being removed.

Oddly enough.. it sounds like you are only getting third gear. I'd check the fuses to the trans and then ohm the solenoids etc from there. You can test a lot with the trans in the car.
