Well i just got that gm recall done for the front gasket to be replaced, and after bringing it home, i noticed its now smoking quite a bit, and after driving around, the smoking seemed to stop but now it shows a 1133 code. this is evidently a front 02 sensor code, but could the recall have screwed with it at all or is this just some coincidene?

It was probably smoking because of spilled oil. P1133 is for "Oxygen sensor insufficient switching (upstream sensor)". Probably a bad sensor. Get the code cleared and see if it comes back.

I have a scangauge 2 so i've already cleared it out. i'll try running it a bit again tonight and see what happens. any idea how long it might take to clear up? i had the car out last night doing some runs with my scanner so im sure it heated up fairly well.

in any case, thanks for the quick response

Edit: do you think the spilled oil may have made the O2 sensor malfunction and/or break completly?

No chance. The sensor is in the rear exhaust manifold. They shouldn't have been anywhere near it.

    Thanks for the help guys.

I guess i should have stated i have headers, but i still dont know if the burnt oil could have effected the sensor. I guess i'll just have to replace it and see if that fixes the problem.

Kinda related: I just had my gasket replaced at Pontiac two months back, and I just pulled of my cover to do some cleaning and noticed that it was leaking just as it was before. Will they fix it again?

PS. Last time they forgot to plug in three spark plugs last time and let me start the car.

Traditionally GM covers part and labor for 12 month or 12,000 miles which ever comes first. So I would think you would be covered. If for some reason they don't, go to another GM dealer with the proof of the work that was done!!

well i took the GP out driving tonight and spent some time heating it up, but it still didnt get rid of the smoke from the tail pipes.. i dont know how or why this might be related to the recall work done, but im sure of it only appearing after this was done. im willing to let the o2 sensor go as a coincidence, but i dunno about the smoke..

anyone know if this is possible from the valve cover area? i dont really know how it would be but im open to suggestions.

had a thought.. would the o2 sensor be causing my car to run rich, perhaps leading to the exhaust smoke coming out the tailpipes?

the only other thing they might have touched when they did the rear valve cover......

was the wiring for the rear O2 sensor. they might have neglected to put the wiring back onto the engine lift bracket....and it might have lightly melted onto the rear header..... just a thought.

or its just coincidence that the SES light came on.

my guess is that they didnt have the gasket all the way on the valve cover when they put it back on... and it is possible the gasket went inward in the rocker area. at which point...there is NO seal on the bottom of the valve cover..and it is leaking oil down the head and onto the header.

this is my theory...as it is EXTREMELY possible.

well the only area i see smoke coming from is out the tailpipes. and its not like its billowing, its as if you start your car on a cold morning, but it doesn't seem to dissipate

yes it would cause it to run somewhat rich, but your gas mileage would reeeeeaaaaallllyyy suffer if it would cause it to run that rich.

    does it smell?

my gas mileage is at about 17 so not exactly what i'd call good, but not reeeaaaaaaaaaly bad either heh. i dont notice a distinct smell to the oil, and it doesnt appear to have a blue tint to it. mostly white / gray. (though i dont normally smell my exhaust so i dont really know whats normal.)

maybe its time for a complete gasket job, but though my car is near 10 years old, it only has 40k on the clock

Thanks for all the help guys

well pulling out of work today i stoped about 100 feet from my parking spot and noticed there was what appeared to me to be an excess of water coming from the mufflers. im sure that it was water. after coming home i parked in the driveway and had not seen any smoke coming from the tailpipes @ all either in gear or parked. idle or reved. i am crossing my fingers for now and hoping it went away but time shall tell i guess. now im just waiting another 30 miles for that check engine light.
