This statement is only partly true. 97-00 don't need a rear o2 sensor, 01+ need an o2 sensor or the cat diagnostic test gets stuck on and the car will dump fuel. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...ou-should-know
Guess that's what I get for having four W-bodies, the newest of which is 2000.
2003 GT Limited Edition 199k - The $600 winter beater. 2004 Buick LeSabre 172k - Top Swapped, 3.5 pulley, 1.9 rockers, SLP headers... still slow... MAKE AMERICA FAST AGAIN!
The main reason I know that is because I have an 01 and it didn't have a cat when I got it.

But thats only if the rear 02 is faulty or unplugged right, if you just dont have a cat it would just throw the code correct? No bad MPGs or anything.

2019 F150 XL - Make it run 12's N/A
2012 F150 STX - Gonna be a race truck
02 GT "Slowkar" 180k - Top Swap, Gen V, TOG Headers, 1.9s, e85, 3.25. It's literally the slowest e85 car ever....
If the downstream o2 sensor is throwing a CEL, then you car is dumping fuel most likely. I could be wrong though.........
Mine was def dumping fuel not a doubt. I experimented cause I cleaned my exhaust tip. Ran with a code. Finally got it fouled and cleaned it again and still looks clean rather than black
