I'm trying to figure out happened to my stereo. My wife, mother-in-law, and daughter take a trip to Oklahoma (600 miles round trip), and had to remove the sub from the truck. They taped off the wires, and my mother-in-law hates music, so they pulled the face plate off as well. Now I get the sub back, and when I hook it up it's farting BAD. The sub is taking it no problem surprisingly enough, but it's unbearable to have hooked up. Anyways, I trace the issue back to my headunit's preouts. I plug the RCA's into a different preout like Front, and everything works good, except I don't have the cross over and such, of course. No farting sound from the sub at all. I rip the dash apart and pull the stereo, check everything out and all is well, check for the ground's continuity, perfect. I really liked my eXallon before all this happened, but it may have dug it's own grave here.

My wife, mother-in-law, and daughter walk into a bar..... Any chance there is a bad connection in faceplate, I had an intermittent issue once because of this (not a sub issue) . I would be pissed with no one to dare yell at, good luck.

If they pulled the faceplate..you know they messed with every button possible beforehand looking for it. Check all your settings. Like.. which phase or direction the sub goes etc.

Considering the idea of digging into the LS4 and doing a piston cleaning and new rings. Gaskets and rings are cheap for the LS4. Any questions, comments, concerns?

For what? Whatss your end goal? Have you got tuned yet? Have you installed a catch can? Colder plugs?

To eliminate oil consumption. I have plans to get me a Overkill tune w DoD turned off sometime soon. Just have to find rides to work for a week since ill be sending in my PCM. And the Catch can hasn't arrived yet. Plus it's really only a bandaid. Catch cans don't stop consumption. Its just something I'm considering. I haven't even ntacted my dealership to see if this problem is even covered under warranty. I've had experience removing pistons before, just not while the motor is still in the car. I might do it, or I might let the dealership take care of it, or I might do nothing.

I've checked all the settings, and had the headunit unplugged\torn apart to check for any obvious issues, so the settings have been reset. I have not clean the face plate connections though, that'll be next up. My wife has removed the face plate a bunch of times (used to live in Phoenix...) I'm also going to tear the harness apart to check for issues there, when I had the head unit in my hand (not mounted), the noise seemed to change when the harness moved. Every connection is soldered, but who knows what could happen.

Catch cans definatley help its a common flaw with gm ls engines period. And why not jus get a local Dyno tune rather than get a canned tune? The their correct way of getting rid of consumption issues besides disabling dod and catch cans is installing updated oil pan gasket BTW catch cans are far from a bandaid not sure where u get that from

Oh I'm pissed don't get me wrong, but it just seems to be one of those things that just happened when they had it, through no fault of their own. So far at least. They had to remove the sub to have truck space for luggage\presents\etc. Once I find something they did wrong and it caused the problem, the **** will hit the fan.

I read the "its just a bandaid" on ls1tech. And isn't the updated oil pan gasket to be used when doing the piston cleaning and ring replacement? That's what I understood from what I've read.

Awesome. Head unit is fixed, ended up being a bad internal ground on the head unit's RCAs. I pull the head unit apart, cut the wire leading to the sub's RCAs and soldered an extension to them, and grounded it to the case. All is well and I'm back to bumpin again!

That might have been a certain persons opinion but far from a accepted concencous.bandaid meaning is for people who needed actual engine rebuilds . and no oil pan updated gasket has nothing to with pistons needing new rings or being cleaned it has to do with the oil diverter valve and other components that cause oil loss as a result of keeping dod. However if you're not the I wouldn't bother with the gasket.
