home depot and menards sell "welding wire" by the foot. Or go to walmart and buy a cheap 4ga amp wiring kit

If I use a amp wiring kit do I need to have the fuse in line? Or just 4ga wire from alt to terminal?

Depends on who you ask, I run 1/0ga and have no fuse and have done so for years. Its 50/50 on who you ask.

Sweet, well the good news is this will be free. I have to just yank the 4ga amp cable from my 04 since we got rid of the system a long time ago.

You should replace a fusible link with a fusible link. It's there for a reason.

I think you know the reason.

You mean the almost fatal outcome I had tonight? Yea that's good reason. Blah I'll hit the autoparts store and do it as right as possible.

you could still do the alt to fuse box direct link, but if you replace the factory routed fusible link with another fusible link, the alt to fuse box link doesn't need to be fusible.

    If that makes sense.

None at all, to me anyways. If I put a fusible link or fused 4ga wire from the alt to fuse box will this fix my issue? Or does that wire run other places? I was gonna cut and tape off the factory routed one and run the new one from alt to box so I don't have to dig into the harness

the factory one runs around the front of the engine, then over the intake and to the alt. I believe it also connects to the wire that runs to the starter and other things down there, so fixing it eventually is a good idea.

To get it running now, the fused link from the alt to box is good enough.

And since I burned the stock one up that can prevent my car from starting? I'm far from experienced in this particular area but seems this should only affect the alternator?
