So tonight I was installing my zzp 1.9 rockers on my 01 gt. I forgot to disconnect the battery, while taking off the alternator I grounded out when my ratchet touched the fuel rail, i pulled my hand away to avoid being shocked and quickly found something to knock the wrench away, but in the meantime the wire the runs to the relay box that says fuse able link burned through and was smoking. I disconnected the battery and finished up the rocker install. I got it all back together taped up the hole in the fuse able link wire and attempted to start the car, everything in the car works, no fuses are blown, the fuel pump is turning on but the car just cranks but doesn't sound like it's got any spark. How much damage do you guys think there is? Any ideas where to start? Thanks.

Something must still be blown fuse wise or relay. I'd replace the burnt wire for sure too.

If the gauges work and fuel pump kicked on, the computer should be okay I would think.

I've done the same thing, but not quite to the extent you described. every time I have done it, it has only sparked for a second, but then my car is a jalopy, so maybe this is one of the things that causes a issue.

So the 13mm power wire from the alt to the positive by the relay box, does it make any other stops on its way to the positive terminal? If not it should be pretty easy to replace. I wanna say there is no spark because it cranks and turns but there is no "pop" no ignition sounds if you will. Maybe my ICM is toast? Or it is very possible i pinched some of the wires that go to the ICM when I reinstalled the passenger dog bone mount I'll have to look tomorrow. I will also go get the ICM tested tomorrow.

pull a plug wire off the coil. prop it a inch over the coil socket, then crank it, your looking for a big fat blue spark to jump coil to plug wire.

you can also see if your getting fuel by pushing in the needle on the shrader valve on the rail. if its got pressure gas will shoot out. watch your eyes, use a rag to keep it from flying all over.

Eh, just pop both off one coil and watch the light show between terminals.

if it cranks, and dont run, your missing fuel or spark.

easy to see that spark in the dark too .

you dont know if you have fuel till you check it.

id pull every last fuse out and check them one by one.

For the hell of it double check plug wire routing if you removed them.

Even just spray some brake cleaner down a vacuum line to see if it'll run for a second.

I never removed them. Except 2 at the coil just now to check for spark. The fuel valve spits gas also. Is it possible the battery needs a charge? I will put a volt meter on the relays tomorrow I'm going to watch some videos right now on how to do it. If that power cable is grounded out anywhere between the alternator and positive terminal could it cause this issue? Also could the rockers have anything to do with this? I used factory style bolts tq to 11ft/lb and then 90 turn

Another quick idea, I removed the brackets that are bolted to the motor that I believe are used to hoist the motor? Is there a ground or anything that I may have overlooked?

    Just skimmed through this...

You fried the fusible link. It sacrificed it's life to let the rest of your electrical system live. Replace it.

I seriously just found that exact answer on Google haha. Does it have to be routed the exact way it is now? Or can I route it from the alt to the firewall and around to the positive terminal?
