If you buy the expensive connector, you lose nothing as far as I know, but that one is $120.

If you buy the cheap connector you will lose your door chimes, and the date on your dic, that's all I've noticed anyway. If you have monsoon or onstar you'll probably lose those too. and I paid $25 after tax. Its a metra 97-2003 that I used.

And for refernce it can be a pain finding a source to run a remote wire on some 04+

Ignition switched power. For whatever reason it's not in the factory harness, so we have to find it elsewhere. I have mine wired to a switch because all of my fuses in my 04 were constant. I haven't tried my 05 yet.

Other members have had sucess running an add a fuse onto their passenger side fuse box with an ignition switched fuse.

Or another option is that there is supposed to be an ignition switched power drop under the drivers side dash IIRC.

A shop will most likely make you buy the $120 harness on top of their install price, so that could be an expensive route to go.

Nah, its a basic wire harness install once you find the ignition switched source.

What about the module. I was looking at it and it looks like a regular wire harness so does the stereo harness just splice into that?

They don't have an ignition switched source because they utilize the RAP system.

GM’s R.A.P system and an amp, tcss - Page 2

    I believe I used a GMOS-02 in my install

That explains that. I can't believe all my searching didn't turn that up.

    Thanks I800!

I used ht GMOS 01 on my 06 and I had the Monsoon and no Onstar. My intentions were to install a different amp and speakers anyhow so the GMOS01 worked just fine for me, as a matter of fact I wired the chimes to come out the center speaker and not the front left. The only other loss was the date function on the DIC and I don't miss it at all.

I would highly suggest you utilize the gmos 02 interface. It's basically plug and play with the head unit(no need to search for the 12v accy. RAP wire), and you can keep the chimes. The problem with the accy. to the radio is GM uses a 5v relay for the radio. Car turns on, sends 5v to the relays, and switches on the RAP system. Regardless of what you do, as soon as you remove the stock hu, you lose the date in the dic. Another one of those things GM did, that data is stored in the non volatile memory in the hu. If you do plan on just using a harness the 12v RAP wire is behind the glove box, accessible from the door jam panel, it's an orange wire. Hope this helps.

Sorry, i was mistaken, its the gmos-04. Yeah, it's pretty pricey. You can find them for $100ish online. It really is the easiest and most functional setup though, worth every penny. I have one that is used and doesn't have the instructions I could sell you for cheap. PM me if interested.
