Have you checked all the fuses and have you checked the resistance of the speakers?

I'd grab a voltmeter and check if the speakers are getting power. if they are you have a speaker problem. I recently fixed my driver's side speaker that stopped working, the wires going to it had power,

i just re-soldered the wire that goes from the cone to the connectors. the fact that your tweeter and speaker stopped working is strange though.

It is defiantly possible to only have one channel go out on a stereo, and the tweeter and midrange are on the same channel in our GP's. A could of things I would check though, like everyone else said, make sure your getting power to your speakers, easiest way is to grab a speaker and test it, or just use a millimeter. If you rant getting power, then follow the wires back to the stereo and make sure that harness is secured, maybe even re-seat it. If you are, which is a good thing, check the connections between each speaker and the wires, if its the speakers, buy better ones!
    Best of luck!

Aren't both items in the door? Which would mean that they both are fed by the same two wires that pass through the door boot? Which would then lead us to wonder if over the years they haven't broken?

It's pretty common . Actually I have an 02 that I need to check into. Same issue.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Wouldn't surprise me if the amp outputs were having issues. My Grand prix seems to have issues with the drivers side door channel as well. Its not that they don't work its that I have to turn them up a bit for the amp to fully power them then turn it back down to listening levels otherwise its as if the left side just doesn't recieve as much power as the right. I have the same Bose system you do (with a bit of modifications, hertz dieci's up front for now and an RE SR sub and amp outback). Its also an issue that happens on my TEAC home amp from the late 80's so its no surprise to me. Besides bose amps going away soon anyway. I feel like since its a class A/B amp it just has to warm up its circuits a bit, but it could be a connection in the amp slowing wearing down until it ends up like yours.
