I have a 1997 Grand prix gtp. I was wondering would a 97 buick riviera supercharged engine bolt right in? I saw that the motor mount where the serpintine belt is in a different position. The engine it self looked pretty much the same?

Engine should be the same. Just swap over any of the GP specific brackets/mounts and fire it up.
should be pretty basic..Im in the middle of a swap also. Good luck!!!
Thanks for the info. would yall recommend changing any gaskets or what not since the other engine is coming out of a car from the junk yard.
Rear main and oil pan gasket for sure.
And if the intake gaskets have not been done yet, those are a must too, you don't want those to fail and have coolant dump into the motor and spin a few bearings.
FFDP, you mean the rear cover, or rear main? I always thought it was the cover that was the issue.
OP- I would also replace the valve cover gaskets and bolt grommets while out. Oh, and if you notice that the rack is leaking or worn now would be the perfect time to install a new rack since there will be nothing in the way. Just step into the bay and a few bolts and lines later it's out and back in. Wished I'd done mine when I had my motor out.
Rear cover. I've yet to see a rear main leak. Cover...always leaking! Use a little locktite on the bolts too. They are such a low torque..you need something to keep them from backing out.
It'll drop right in. Things to swap:
Rear exhaust manifold.
Pull that front bracket (mount) and fill in the holes with whatever is in your gp motor holes.
Swap the coil pack bracket from your gtp on it
Swap evap if it's different (if not 97 to 97, it'll be different)
Swap alt bracket if it's different
SWap AC brackets
That's it in a nutshell.
In my eyes, I see two seperate gaskets. The rear engine cover is one and the rear main is a second.
A rear engine cover gasket will appear to look like an oil pan gasket is bad. Yet no matter how many times you replace it.. you can't stop the leak. A rear main should show up with a moist flexplate. As the oil seeps out, it's on the crank and then the flex and it will sling it all over inside the bell houseing.
Ok so new up date. I ended up getting an engine out of a 2004 impala ss. The guy told me it was the same engine. Please tell me the guy is right. It looked the same to me? Should I still replace the rear main seal? The engine supposedly has 59K miles on it. I was planning on changing only the valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket.
