I had a CAI on my car for about a year then took it off due to some whining at idel and I wanted to make sure it wasnt just coming from my sc because of the intake.

So I put intake back on the car and after 10 minutes of driving the entire car starts to fall apart. I get numerous warnings on traction control, stability control, reduced power, and my RPMs are all over the place at idle. The whole engine started to shutter and I seriously thought it was about to explode.

The only thing I did that was different was that I put the intake back on. Am I just a terrible mechanic or did I just have a slight oversight or is my engine seriously about to erupt?

something might have gotten in the intake when you took it off and then got in the engine which can destroy it. thats just a complete guess but its still very possible.

I did forget to put the oil cap back on but I didnt drive very far before it happened. Now that the stock intake is back on everything is working perfectly again

open the oil cap, see if it runs bad again like that.. could be a clogged pvc valve or something like that.

with the cap open, and the car running, you should have no suction, so put the palm of your hand over it to feel for it sucking in. if not your ok. if its sucking you got a problem.

Good news. No suction on the oil cap hole. Everything seems to be running smoothly

Probably knocked the wires on the PCM loose.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

    what he said ^^

i was thinking that if you had to disconnect the pcm to install the CAI then maybe you didnt tighten it all the way when you plugged it back in.

You measure vacuum in the manifold, not the crank case.

No there's so much vacuum in the engine that if remove the oil fill cap while the engine is running it will stall out the car

i was taught in school that you can put a card over your oil fill hole. if it blows it off, your PCV is clogged, if there is slight suction it is working.

that also makes sense. if your pcv is clogged, crank case pressure can not vent, and it would blow the card off the oil fill hole.

of course you can also do the rattle test. take out your pcv, shake it. if it rattles it is good.

edit> you more than likely left a vac hose undone. when i deleted my evap system, i left the hole on my tb unplugged, car felt like i had plug wires swapped around and i was in a earthquake. plugged the nipple on the tb and back to normal

PCV can fail closed or open.

Closed - to much pressure in crank case
Open - to much vacuum in crank case
It's a CUMMINS Dodge not a Dodge Cummins
