As the oil heats up it gets thinner thereby causing lower oil pressure.

slap a pressure gauge on it asap before you swap it again.

    15w40 Rotella??

But really, it could be the oil pump or something even blocking the oil pick up tube.

If it's a used motor then the main bearing clearances are probably greater than 0.003".
Make sure the pressure bypass port isn't all beat up.
Check where the gerotor rides against the front cover. If it's all scored and scratched your pump will lose it's efficiency at idle.

This is exactly why I take a used motor apart before installation.

If it has locked up then it's probably all beat to hell and yes, it could let oil pressure bleed through the bypass circuit. Take the plug/spring out and inspect it. I think it's a good place to start.

I know you don't want to hear it but - put a gauge on it. See what the idle pressure is. For your sake I hope it's above 10 psi.

Dude, I really wish I could be there to help you.

    Good Man!

I remove the neck by removing the axle first...makes it much easier. I know someone will want to beat me up but I can have an axle off in about 15 minutes with hand tools.

We'll be looking forward to your next post(s).

If you aren't going to take the engine apart immediately put some higher viscosity oil in it to prolong it's life for a few days.
You can save the motor if it's not knocking yet but you have to know what you're doing.

Excuse me for my ignorance but what does 2k psi mean?

Must mean 2k rpm. Which means whatever is causing the low oil pressure...it's getting worse. I'd suspect a bearing wearing out with the lack of oil, but tearing it down would tell you for sure.

PS. Chuck..it's pull the axle and make the job easy or fight for three times as long and not use the correct torque on the bolts. Although I prefer to pull it when the engine is out of the car.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Realizing you are against gauges, it would tell you if the issue was truly oil pressure as we are guessing that it is.... can't be sure w/o testing though.
