04's in stock form on long driving will see 230*, this is true.

Changing out the fluid and filter to a nice Syn (Cough Cough Amsoil) will help. Also many of use had our fans reprogrammed to kick on at 180* vs the Stock 210* (or whatever it is). This will help tremendously to bring your tranny temps down as well.

I've seen as high as 235* when my car was stock and with Amsoil....now 205* is the most I see.

Well then search around. There are many other sources to back up that information. It's almost "common knowledge."

And yes, sometimes hot happens and you can't help that. But to spread misinformation like:

Ive heard that around 260* is when bad things start to happen
is not doing anybody any good. Transmission fluid starts to break down, or in your words, 'bad things happen' well before 260°. So to think and convey to someone that doesn't know that anything under 260° is safe is just wrong. Fluid starts to break down well before that.

Yes, sometimes you can't help that your tranny gets hot. But with some preventative measures like a tranny cooler and synthetic fluid, you can prevent your transmission from getting to those dangerous temperatures over 220°.

Temperature gauge shows a little under half on the reading. I just changed trans fluid an filter yesterday. Getting coolant changed this week too. Hopefully these two things will get trans temp down.....
