Did you get the coolers from zzp and everything came with it?
I got my Long LPD 18,000 GVW coolers from amazon or ebay:
https://www.amazon.com/Long-Tru-Cool.../dp/B005XZXB1M
The coolers come with everything you need: The cooler, hoses, mounting brackets, hose clamps, nut and bolts for the mounts etc.
I used 2 coolers, one on each side in the nose in front of the condenser since I figured I could get them in without removing anything from the bottom front of the nose. If I was doing the install today I would use the biggest Long LPD cooler I could mount in the space or the Long Tru Cool Max if you can get it in place. My installation was done in 2009, 8 years ago, and still perfect, GP used as a DD all year round.
I know it's a old thread, but I'm getting ready to do this to my 01 Grand Prix SE, with 107,500 on the clock.
Slightly hard shifts after a few miles. Not real hard or anything. Probably won't get to it till the spring though. I'll be happy to get 20,000 more out of the trans, as l only put a few thousand miles a year on the car.
I'll probably do the trans cooler too.
You say the one cooler the one fellow linked to on Amazon will be good for these cars?
[Hello, I would like some help in knowing how to change the pistons, I want to replace them but I don't have a clear idea of how to remove the spring that is stuck on the piston, if you have any video or some instructions on how to do it I would be grateful
Well its 2025 and my 2001 GPGT 3.8 has just started to shift hard between 2-3 and 3-OD... First to second is very smooth. I fixed the OD problem by just driving in 3 instead of D. The car just hit 115,000 miles. It has had an easy life. Very few miles for a 24 year old car.
Is the best fix still the shift kit and cooler... And if it is, which one will have the biggest impact? cooler or shift kit? Thanks...
I'd go with the shift kit first. Since you have to drop the pan to install it will guarantee you get about 6 quarts of fresh fluid into it and a new filter.
If you can afford to do the cooler too, then add that at the same time. Can't hurt.
I've always driven my 4t65e's around in 3 until I sustain a speed above 50mph and then I shift it into D. Got almost 300K out of the current trans before it started to wear out the clutches and TCC issues showed up doing it this way. Much less wear on the 4th clutch hub that causes it to wear off the splines and you loose OD. And I beat on my 00 GT here and there so I must have done something right.
