As the title say last week was my first big run and it just happen to be with a STI. It started by me just following him out of town on a four lane divided highway. Every time he would accelerate I would too. After a few miles every time there was an open stretch he would really hit it and I would end up going WOT all the while thinking was he saving anything? Finally we are far enough out of town to have some open stretches, still on a four lane divided highway. We started doing 60 rolls and even ran up into the 120s. I started every run in 2nd, gave him the hit but stayed next to him while gaining ground every time he shifted. However the last run was different, we slow to 30 with our windows down he called out 40 and I nodded yes. As we moved toward our magic number I was thinking O’ no this must be his sweet spot! At 38 mph, I’m in 2nd, he started to honk it off and we both hit it on 3. I jumped out ½ car and began a very slowly pull, once again every time he shifted my pull became faster. Soon it was all over, I was clearly the winner. He quickly hooked a U turn and headed the other way, I tried to follow but he didn’t want any more. I’m glad he baled because I wasn’t watching my trans temp…212. As for the STI all I know was that it was a “new” one and had a big ass fart can. I had a trunk load of car parts (3 intakes and all my old engine parts) and a full tank of gas. Car hasn’t been tuned yet and I am going to install my trans cooler this week, I promise. Some of neat conclusions of tonight was that the numbers on the HUD were moving so fast that I couldn’t read them, this engine can scream, and what will this car be like when the N2O is installed?

Thats what I was thinking when he started to honk it off. Nobody is going to believe me, esp the 3800 guys! Still needs a tune and the N20 finished, I plan on getting it tuned (na) during Xmas time and will post up dyno.

I don't doubt the GXP's can be quick but it takes alot of funds and specialized parts to do it. It's cool that you can use parts off the other LSX's.
1999 GTPHP Tuned, Ported SC/TB, 42#'s, SSAC's, ZZP Modded 1.9's/LS6 Springs/Manley's, TransGo Shift Kit, Poly Uppers, KYB GR2's/Springtech's. - 231k and traded it in. - Gone
    2000 GTP: XP, P&P'd Heads, N*\Lq4 MAF, GenV, 42#'s, PRJ Rails\FPR, Racetronix, TEP w/ 3.29 Gears, 300m, 7/8" chain, SSAC's. - Collecting dust in my garage.

Sweet deal i believe you man, LS4's can do some stuff when done right. Heads, cam, intake and Headers are a GREAT power pusher from the start.

I have to agree with you there. This was my first attempt at moding a car so I learned alot the hard way. Would I do it all over? Perhaps with a different car or just turbo the dam thing.

It's just as if it were a Fbody or a GTO

steal upgrades from the big brother, not to hard. or swap in a 6.0L truck block. its all the same platform LSX so i don't understand when people say no aftermarket for Ls4, Cam, Heads, Intake, Headers, Juice, and i'm sure you can turbo it am i right? so there is a market, its just NOT as popular that's all. its all the same, I just like my L67 more, 1 it weighs less secondly i like cheap boost lol.

for me to get a ls4 i would have to come up with Atleast 2 grand to get a turbo build started. lsx blocks are easy to come by, but doing the turbo would be the hard part, get a 90-10X intake manifold From FAST, and a throttle body and your set. It's all the same. SO go for it

oh and the trans, Beef her up before you do this lol

And i have the 5.3 in my truck, and with a small cam, headers and intake work she moves pretty damn nicely.
it's not a junk motor, I know of so many people that put them in there v6 camaro and stomp 346 (lS1 5.7) motors

    LS1 5.7L (346 cubic inches)
    LT1 5.7L (350 cubic inches)
    LS4 5.3L (325-327 cubic inches) can't remember

all great motors doesn't even matter the size of the inches, It's how you use it that matters

the ls4 crank is a little over 10 mm shorter than standard ls blocks iirc. the first thing to do is get rid of dod. next get the most displacement you can out of it. you can prolly get a 383 but again the cranks different to its a matter of making a crank as the another ls wont fit. headwork and a cam and youd be pushing way more power. not to mention the sound. im still considering a ls4 swap but itll prolly sit on a stand until its fully done. ive also been told youll need the cradle and suspension from a gxp too. im only lookin for about 300whp so a l67 build would be way easier and cheaper. and the whine is better than any ls4
