Soo what about motorcycles - they wanna put the nozzle in while I sit on my bike keeping it level? That's retarded
And yeah , e85 is like 2.60 here. Not worth it yet....

most guys on bikes take the nozzle from the guy and pump themselves. if its a nice bike, normal people just know better then to touch it.

unwritten biker rules lol who wants to be punched in the face for messing with a mans bike?

they know better. you can pump your own, but you have to wait for the tool bag guy to come over, set the pump and hand it to you.

most pumps you cant work here until the guy swipes his card, it unlocks the all the buttons. they really keep you from pumping these days.

put up with what? not pumping my own gas and paying less then the national average most of the time? its all i know. been like this my whole life here. that being said, i can operate a gas pump. ( always could) i ve seen the NJ girls drive out of state and try to pump gas, its funny.

when i fill up my hands stay clean every time. you pull up like fast food, turn the car off, tell the man what you want. man pumps gas, you then pay him and drive off. the whole time in my dry, cool or warm car.

i dont see one single issue here.

    E85 is 2.19
    87 is 2.35
    97 is 2.75

At the only place that sells E85 in my area. I don't see any E85 in Houston.

87 is 2.24 at the cheapest
    premium is 2.61

    E85 is $2.49
The Loves by my place has
    87 for $2.79
    89 for $2.69
    91 for $3.14
The gas station by my work
    85 is $2.79
    91 is $3.35
    Diesel is $2.49
Our gas stations are odd some have 85, 87 & 91 some have 87, 88 & 91. Some places the mid grade is less than regular some places it's more. I'm not sure how gas stations can sell 85 octane fuel even my lawn mower requires a minimum of 87.

Holy smokes I totally forgot this existed. I was in NJ once years and years ago and got screamed stupid for trying to pump my own gas. When I first learned about it, it blew my mind. I ended up trying to ask the guy what was going on and he just kept shouting told him to go get bent and left and just figured I would wait until I got back into PA. When I got to my friends house he laughed and laughed he was from Chicago and had been yelled at too. After visiting I headed back into PA and got charged to leave via the bridge! It's like getting out of San Fransisco driving over the Oakland bridge and having to pay to get back into San Fran! I was thinking what kind of leftist pinko nazi crap is this??

But seriously there have only been a couple of times in all of my life where I have gotten a drop of gas on me. I just don't understand it.

It's based on elevation. As elevation increases octane requirement decreases. Briggs and Stratton says a minimum of 87 assuming operation at sea level they leave it in there so they don't have to change the manual, and there is a section on elevation in there as well. I have actually asked this question from a Briggs engineer when I was at one of their test facilities where they make the outboard motors, generators and pressure washers. We had equipment that detected that the manual, goggles and other pressure washer accessories you get in the separate bag. They wanted to know if the reply card was in it, lol. Each engine is jetted to the area in which it is sold as well. Altitude a big deal with carburetors not too much on fuel injected cars. But even tuning needs change based on altitude.

It would lower the octane as E85 is already 107 or so Octane.
