Sorry to hear your troubles sven. I hope things get better.

I'm working at the house today and removing trim (that should have been done before painting, but hey what do I know). This is hard work, my goodness. One room took me about 20 minutes. Now just a **** ton more to go. *sigh*

one of those small pry bars, and a small cats paw would be your best friend for trim removal. if you want to reuse it any ways.

As for the trim, like Scotty said, a nice small flatbar is awesome for trim removal. One of the best investments I've made for my home improvement tool kit. The second was my Skill Saw...then my masonry saw.

funny part is that small pry bar. talking maybe 6 inches long. looks like a kids toy. but works great with little to no damage to the wall or wood trim.

the cats paw will pull the trim nails so you dont pull the nail through the wood and risk splitting it. the small one also looks like a kids toy.

Looked like a newer house so probably 16 gauge finish nails from nailer? pull any nails stuck in trim from the back so you don't blow out chunks in the face side.
What I use because you can roll it for leverage.

Ive been using a smallish pry bar and a 5 in 1 paint tool. First room took a long time. Just got done with the 2nd room, I finally got a system down. Seemed to go quicker.
im getting to old to crawl around on the floor like this. Haha

Yeah the house is only 11 yrs old but previous paint job sucked major ass. Some of the trim was already cracked and pullint away from the walls bad.

Its an Ideal built home, you can definitely tell where corners were cut. The plug in holes are all crooked, Lee had fun replacing all those.
Im hacing the most trouble with trim because of the carpet. It needs stretched really bad so it just bunches up when I push against it with the trim. Its a fun battle. Good thing the carpet is all getting torn out.

you got the good hammer as far as im concerned, the straight claw hammers work way better then those curled over claws.

that Stanley pry bar wil last you a life time if you done loose it. ive got one like it thats over 20 years old. and a solid bar type thats like 30 years old. that ones been pounded on like you dont know, with sledge hammers and such lol.


this kind, i had to go get mine and pull the part # off it, as it would not come up in search lol

the one i have the claw looks a bit different, but its a good 30 plus years old, it was my dads.

this is a 1 inch thick hex bar type. its for adjusting attitudes lol

best part of new trim is you can prime and paint it, then hang it.

Typically you would yank the carpet first if it is getting replaced. The trim will be hard to remove otherwise(as you are finding out) because it is sandwiched between the wall,carpet and tack strip.

Buying new trim can be costly, it adds up really quick. Yank the carpet and pad now and the trim will come out way easier

Hopefully we can reuse most of it. Its golden oak now, I would love to change it to white. However.....that means a lot more painting including doors and trim and window trims and all that. Idk if im up for that. The white drywall where the trim was does look sharp with the walls. And we have all white outlets and switches now.

I'm working solo today and I think Lee would be upset if I pulled carpet. Especially since not sure when we are doing it. Plus I've never pulled carpet before, but it cant be that hard.

Wife left...house is empty. The peace is eerily unsettling. I feel relieved to know it's finally over but in the same regard am torn apart. Guess I should have expected this.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how much it sucks to be lonely. Just keep yourself busy as best as you can. I hope it gets better for you.

being your dealing with oak, use 2 pry bars like in the pic i posted, pull it out some, then pull the bars and push it back to the wall, then take the nails out.
