Right now I'm running Windows 7. And I'm not sure what the deal is with Windows 8.1 but when I was having that issue safe mode wouldn't even load it would just hang. That was a fresh install on my system, which is custom built.

Is It just when trying to update or you can't even load windows? Makes me think windows 8.1 doesn't like a driver or peice of hardware you have but I haven't touched windows 8 yet and dont know its quirks and how it runs and I'm behind on tech stuff a bit because cars kinda took over, if I could snag a copy on the cheaps I would. Just install it on a partition off one of my HDDs.

Also could be driver related, as well as like stated above BIOS related. Try a manual bios update from the manufacturers site.
I was just giving you **** man... like every other GS employee.

But I'm on the same thought trip... automatic BIOS updates sound like a horrid idea. I would be dumping that computer asap.

I have the next couple days off from work so I'm gonna sit down and try a fresh install of Windows 8.1 again.

Idk so far I like it, it is much faster than Windows 7 and it's nice being able to go from pushing the power button to the desktop in under 10 seconds.

Been using windows 8 since I got my hands on the developer preview. Been pretty nice since it has faster boot times (Doubly nice if you have an ssd!), less of a foot print on my hard drive and less resource intensive all around. I will admit that a fresh install of windows 8 then doing all the updates to get to 8.1 is a pain in the butt.

Oi! other than that.... love it

I've never had more problems than with windows 8 and Realtek RTL8188EE adapter, it's absurd! And it's even more prominent after updating to 8.1 The worst thing? The only solution so far is to uninstall the drivers, and re-install, which doesn't fix the problem

Sigh, thankfully the problems are only intermittent throughout the day for everybody *unless* they also end up with airplane mode locked on

That sounds more like a driver issue than a Windows 8/8.1 issue. So that is on Realtek and not M$

I'm guessing it's as much a driver issue as a random conflict within windows 8/8.1 it seems (much like the issue with the mute button becoming locked. Wasn't Microsoft or the Sound card makers fault, just an annoying, hard to find, conflict), lol. As long as you don't update your comp the damn thing works great! but who wants to run an old sketchy version with no fixes?

I have a ethernet cord and a spare card just in case this problem eventually fries it, worries me every time it says it can't start .. And to be honest I think it's actually a bigger pain in the ass to have my girlfriend complain about it and make me fix it, just because she can't get on tumblr or youtube.................

Should really just get over it and buy an entirely different brand to be done with it, but alas, that's far to easy
