Its actually for my wife, she doesn't know yet lol, it went on sale for $300 off($999) and she wanted a laptop that could play sims 3 and the billion expansions, so I thought this should do the trick lol

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...tent-_-text-_-

This friggin thing has a faster cpu and ram then my gaming desktop lol(my desktop has a fx 8350 and ddr3 ram). but atleast my desktop has the better gpu(gtx970) thats what I care about most

Ill take some pics when the beast arrives.

got it in the mail yesterday, the wife was pleasantly surprised lol. I never owned a laptop before but so been tinkering with it. currently loading the sims 3 on it for the wife(with all 18 expansions lol)
Ill thrown one of my games on it and see how it runs as sims 3 is deadly old.

That's the one I got last year on black friday, it's holding up just fine to Fallout 4 at max graphics. lol

I did upgrade it slightly... 16GB ram, 500GB SSD, and overclocked it to 3.5GHz... lol

What's your average fps? I can't see it being near 60fps. And cpu's didn't do well in that game.
My desktop has a and 8350 ocd to 4.4 ghz and a gtx 970 and the fps fluctuated like crazy it was ridiculous

Mine averages about 45-55 fps, if I'm in the middle of downtown Boston it has dropped to 35, but not really lower than that.

In some places I've hit 75, like you said it does fluctuate like crazy. Lol

Lol. I'm struggling with a "gaming laptop" I like the concept but it's just not feasible for me. Too expensive for what's it in, gets super hot unless you use a proper lap board for it

my laptop now gets mad just sitting on my cargo shorts.

This laptop will be playing Sims 3 99% of its life lol, the CPU is major overkill for the gtx 960m but it will stay cool I think cause it won't have to work hard playing that game lol. It has a button on the keyboard to make the fans go 100% if it does start to get hot.
I'm not a fan of laptops due to easy overheating and being overpriced, but the wife wanted one forever and I wanted to buy her something nice.

mines got that same button, it's nice for keeping my coffee warm as I'm playing lol

That's at 1080 res, yes. I tried doing that at the native resolution of 1920x1680... maybe 20 fps. lol

I think it's a really nice laptop. She should give you tons of kisses - on your di...

Anyways - the 980 and that cpu is nice.
Im rocking a A8 with a r5 only thing I did was max the ram to 16gb. It plays games but it's not 1080 and it's not hardcore but it's decent.

I boight it for tuning and surfing

That first sentence made me burst out laughing glad I wasn't drinking anything lol

I wish it was a 980, only a 960 but it's more then enough for her Sims 3. I might put 16gb of ram in for her but it has ddr4 ram so it might not need it due to the speed of the ram, crazy thing is it maxes out at 32gb of ram if it wanted to spend that much lol

    aw damn. lol I mis-typed 1680 instead of 1080...

one step down is 1680x1050, that's usually what I set my res to when playing anything new-ish, it's hard to tell the difference in picture quality, but the performance increase is crazy.

Ya it would be a big leap in performance, and with a smaller screen you wouldn't see the difference in quality. You would see it on a 27"+ though but what laptop has a screen that big lol

I've ran HDMI out to my 40" bedroom tv before, but that was an indie co-op game for both me & the wife. lol not that kind of graphics quality.

I've got either 1866 or 2133 in mine I believe... can't quite recall. it was the fastest DDR3 at the time, latency of 9-9-9-27. like $75 maybe.

EDIT: I was totally off. Crucial Ballistics, 2x8gb DDR3 2133, 10-10-10-32 and I paid $98 for the pair about a year ago.
