Actually...
I could drive the rocking horse if I put wheels on it. lol
But now I have reached an even lower standard.

They still have to settle, but I already like this stance much better. Plus the ride has improved dramatically, and the random clunks and noises I was getting before are all gone.

Now I can move my focus to another part of the car that has been neglected it's entire life... haven't decided yet which part. lol
Neglected part of the car you say?!
I'll bet'cha there's some dust between the headliner & the roof!
And don't be silly about putting wheels on a rocking horse...It wouldn't rock any more, it would roll!
Would you then call it a rolly horse?!!!

I'd still call it a rocking horse, because rolly horse doesn't sound as cool.
I've needed new headlights for a while, but I've still got mechanical issues to fix.
And no. I got it close enough, but the soonest I can get it in for an accurate alignment is November. Or pay $150 more for a different shop to do it.
I was a little worried about the front being high compared to the rear, but it seems like they're already starting to settle.

I haven't measured the gap, but from any distance it looks like it's the same all around.I'm still not 100% sure that these are the SSC's that are listed for the 97-03 GPs... I was about to toss the box they came in when I noticed a part number: 21-2721. That's the P/N for a set of springs for the 94-96 Impala, 2" drop in the front, 3" drop in the rear.
I feel like the car would be much lower than it is now if that were the case, because there was 4" between the tire and fender before I swapped the struts out. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
BTW...Car looks good as it sits!
It's quite a bit firmer, but not so much to be uncomfortable. I'm just happy that I didn't break something important during the swap out... Like a knuckle or something.
I know these GR2s weren't the best option, but at short notice they were cheaper... I saw two different FS posts with Bilsteins after the GR2s showed up and silently punched myself in the face. lol
I was kinda liking the idea of a slight rake, so I went with the 97-03, because the ass end of my car was starting to drag and I thought: "those at least won't sag in the rear!" I tried looking for pics of 04+ with both, just to see if I could spot a difference, but I was unsuccessful at finding those pics. And the fact that it could take years for the springs to fully settle means I'm just gonna have to deal with it and wait.
And thanks LEVELX. It needs a wash, but other than dirt, paint and a few dings, I'm happy with the way it looks.
I can't express how much I love this car...
My company went out to the field for 10 days, did lots of dumb stuff, fired lots of blanks, camped in the woods, etc... We get back and everybody just wants to go home. I'm one of the last out of the building, and half of my platoon is sitting in their respective driver's seats, doors open, just cranking away with facial expressions ranging from mild annoyance to almost in tears. They're all having problems with getting their cars and trucks to start.
I walk to my turd, sit down, just bump the key and she fires right up.
I don't know why she does it, but I'm never gonna complain (too much) about this car and the issues she gives me.
Anyways, it ended up being a total of:
2 dead batteries (I jumped both of them)
1 busted fuel line (pop can, RTV and zip-ties save the day again!) In case of curiosity, it was a 82 C20 with more rust than the Titanic.
1 blown fuel pump fuse (of course I have extra fuses)
1 blown ignition control thingy fuse (...I can't remember the exact name, but we all know what it does.)
And last but not least, my buddies car had a total of: 2 broken spark plugs, one shredded plug wire, one mangled, tangled ball of belt spaghetti (it literally looked like spaghetti), and two halves of a belt tensioner. That was an interesting trip to O'Reilly's...
But I managed to get every car and truck out of that parking lot under it's own power... After I jumped the first two, I figured I might as well help everyone.
Update: Horn is broke again.
Well... There's yer problem. by Ben Stryker, on Flickr
Yes, you are seeing that correctly.
That's just a wee bit short... by Ben Stryker, on Flickr
That's where the wires broke this time... Before it was about 2" from the plug, and I did the entire fold together, twist, solder, heat shrink tubing, electrical tape, bigger heat shrink tubing over both, and loom with more electrical tape. There's no fixing that. lol
Now I'm hornless until I get a weekend off (hopefully) and can swing by the JY. The only question is...
Should I get a direct fit GP horn, or look for something wacky and see if I can get it to make weird noises?
EDIT: And yes, it does look a bit crispy... I got a little excited with the soldering torch last time, and kinda burnt some....most of the insulation off.
Which is why I did extra with the heat shrink. To no avail. Obviously.
And I get that I probably over-heated the copper and made it brittle or whatever... I didn't like those horns anyway. They always filled up with water somehow... Even when pointing downwards.
