A supercharger works by forcing more air into the engine. There are two screw-type objects in the supercharger housing that are rotated by a pulley, just like a water pump or A/C compressor. The screws spin quicker as the engine RPM's increase, compressing the air going into the engine. Since this air is compressed more than normal, more air is allowed into the engine, resulting in more power.
But also means more fuel is being forced in.
