Personally...I'd rather use a brake type flare/bubble connection. It stands up to the pressure rating you need whereas a compression fitting isn't rated for it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

true, but ive had them on every line possible over the years, never a failure. brake, trans, fuel. i got 2 on my car now for a brake line repair.

for 2 bucks each, its worth it to me.

But, to emulate that S-curve I'll need to use a nylon plasticy line, no? Which would connect to a connector attached to the filter, and a compression fitting wherever I cut off the line?

if you cant bend the metal line if its not soft enough to do by hand, you use a small metal pipe bender. small one is maybe 10 bucks or so. but a pvc tube or round pipe will also work. as long as your not making the turn to tight.

If you bought NiCopp line..you could bend it around a soda can with your pinky finger

*head explodes from options and opinions*

I'll go to Hedahls after class and see what they have that I can get right now to repair it, at least for now.

I don't remember what year. IIRC it was an Impala. I'll look when I get home

Had to do the same thing on a Chevy 1500 a few years ago. Owner was being a cheap ass but the end result was good. Never had an issue and future fuel filter changes were easy as hell.

That will probably hold for years; with the sharp bend in the hose, it can't move anywhere.

Yeah, my brother did the same thing on his 90s Grand Am a number of years back and it held fine. I think I'll just watch it closely for a couple weeks and if it seems to be holding good I'll leave it alone - if it doesn't hold right I'll do something with compression fittings and such.

Thanks for all the help and input guys, really appreciate it!
