Finally my GMCELL showed up. there are 3 wires that do not go between the female and male end (they are the ones ment to go to a phone +/- and mute system) Since the DIC board has all 12 pins, I assume I need to attach these to the male end also right? Can you check this in your wiring diagram? (or post the diagram you have and I can check it)![]()
I'll look when i get to my home pc, but yeah, i think you should ahead and connect them... but since you need to re-pin the male end, you should be ok (the male end you have will end up with 2 wires coming from each pin, (if you ordered the ammount of pins that i posted, you should be fine)
Hmm, just realized the pins I bought are female pins. I need male pins to complete this connector. I'll have to order some I think. You know a part no by chance?
hmmm crap..
the male pin should be 12084449
but mouser sells them in lots of 25,000
this is a road block.... i think i was envisioning all of the pins being present in the male connector, and just splicing to the wires, i guess. grrrrrrrr
there are other places on the web that have delpi parts, but will have to dig around some more.
alright, more info, man
part number
12040902
mouser is out of stock on these, but i think this particular number is a good GM number, too, so you might call your local dealer and ask about this p/n.
only place i find them online is here, in 10 packs.
"GM Micro-Pack: 12040902 Ga. 22 Tin Plated, 10/pcs": Sherco Auto Supply
tho, they're the 22AWG size, was hoping for larger.
I looked at this one too, and thought it would work, until i looked at it's drawing.
it's meant for a different connector body... wont work...
what you may end up doing is using the smaller pins, and just put one wire in there, and come out, and use solder/heat shrink to make your joint outside of the connector.....
Hmm... I think I might go ahead and order the pack of 10 you found. I called mouser and theirs won't be in until the end of February. I may also pick up that Ipod t harness I found and see if it would make things easier for others in the future. Thanks for the help.
no problem. I'd venture to guess that the ipod adapter one has all the pins in it, i know the similar one that is in my truck has all the pins, as it's a T-harness
I looked today and the DIC only uses 8 pins. So I could use it but repin it to the correct spots. It doesn't work straight up the way it is. I'm still ordering the pins I need to redo it completely and when installing my HUD yesterday, I found another connector that if I repin it, I can use a stock wiring harness.![]()
Its a harness for the HUD controls, not the DIC. SOrry for the confusion. That was pretty poorly written. Its C240 on the wiring diagrams if you have them around and care too take a peak.
Tyro, where do you find all these automotive connectors? And how do you know what to look for or how do you identify the connectors. There are some in the engine bay I would like to run down a good source for.
Well, Toasty has helped me quite a bit on my project as you've seen here. I also have the GM service manual that shows connector end views, pinouts, etc along with a part number. From there, its a bit of Google searching.
Well first and foremost, I want an alternator male and female connector, but not just necessarily for my car but for another make and model. I was hoping it was just one or two sources for those or like some huge outlet that specialized in automotive connectors.
