Ok guys just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this problem. My 2001 GTP shake or shimmies when I am accelerating to get on the highway. When I reach speed the shimmy goes away. The tires have been rotated and balanced numerous times with no change to the problem. Hoping for a bit of brain storming for things to check, or if anyone else has had this problem as well. Lets see what you got...

    Agreed with the dood above.

Axle is bad, might aswell do both.

Cv joint or possibly a motor mount or tranny mount since it only shakes when accelerating. Check all 3 motor mounts.

Thanks guys. Are there diagnostic steps/visual abnormalities to spot a bad CV joint, Axle, or Motor/Tranny Mounts? I really hope there are more ways than "a vibration during acceleration" to figure out if these parts are bad and in need of replacement.

CV joints can leak grease from a ripped boot, and make a popping noise when cornering sharp. Mine looked perfect when they were shaking under acceleration though, so you might not be able to spot anything visually.

I've had a CV joint splatter black grease all over and another that looked completely fine, but replacing both solved the problem. Check the upper motor mounts and check for cracks. The lower motor mount which will be on the passenger side might be hydraulic so when those go bad they will crack and leak oil. Tranny mount will be cracked. better way is to stick a pry bar between the mount and bracket and see how much movement you get.
