^^^fuel injector could be an issue if its slightly clogged. i would just dump some techron fuel injector cleaner in there and maybe change the fuel filter if you havent recently. see if it helps. are you getting a check engine light?

were the spark plugs and plug wires replaced as an attempt to fix your #3 misfire or did the misfire occur after installation of the new parts? Exactdy what was missing from the spark plug? Was it the end that goes into the spark plug wire boot or the end that goes into the engine?

swap the icm I just did one of these a week ago when it went out on the 98 GT my brother in law got and we threw a trans in it total cost for the car 950ish dollars and its in better shape than mine.

Seems more like icm problem to me than an injector esp if it drives fine around town otherwise just crappy idle, Id think the idle sounds like spark problem.

IIRC oreillys and most other stores should be able to check an ignition control module

None of your symptoms have pointed to a cat issue.

An electrode missing from a spark plug makes me worry...hope you didn't toast a valve, or worse.
You may need to take that car to a professional.

The most important clue was the damaged spark plug.

I did read the entire thread and that's why I suggested that there may be a problem with compression.

A piece of electrode may have gotten caught between a valve and its seat. I personally have never sean it happen in the 25 years I've been doing this...but I have heard of it.

There may still be a problem with the valve train like a sticky guide or a bent valve. I have seen this happen but it is usually accompanied by some noises in the top of the motor. I don't know if this is common on the 3800.

I wasn't aware of a code that says "random misfire only at idle". What number is that?

You mean P0303? This would indicate cylinder number 3.
