You know, sometimes being a great mechanic is as easy as closing the trunk

'99 GTP new to us. So figuring out the little things that are going on takes me a while. The other day I took my daughters car out to the parts store. On the way it's starts chiming 4 times every little bit. No lights nothing wrong on the DIC.

So I have been doing a lot of searching this sight and thinking everything from a bad headlight switch to an ignition switch to a new PCM.

I asked my daughter if it was doing it and she said "yea, but it seems like when I hit bigger bumps, but sometimes it does it on smoother roads". So I take it for a drive and I hit one larger bump - chime x 4. Now I get home and notice that the door chimes 4 x when it's open. So after thinking more about it I think it seems like a door or the trunk. I go outside to "shake the doors" but first I try the trunk and WHAT DO YOU KNOW - IT'S OPEN!

Well I am both feeling a little stupid and happy - kinda happy-stupid. It was easy, it's fixed and it's free.

I now know that these trunks are nice and heavy with the spoiler on there and it keeps the trunk closed just enough that you don't know it really unlatched.

exactly! I told my daughter that she is going to have to pay attention to the button on the key fob. But at least now she knows what is going on now when she hears it.

mine will only light up when i hit bumps, but when its open like that it also sucks in the cars exhaust, ( on a regal anyways) so im always checking mine. sometimes i can smell it before the light comes on.

Well, since it is so popular I think Pontiac should have made the DIC say "It's open again" rather than the 4 chimes.

It seems like these cars really don't have much assist from the lid struts or are mine just worn down? You pop that lid with the fob and the lid just sits there defiantly waiting for you to lift it.

@scottydoggs, thank you for the clarifications. I did read your signature, but I wanted to make sure and ask to confirm. I apologize for this inconvenience.

not a problem, its just the fob getting hit when in my pockets, the trunk button seem to work to well.
