should i get plugs and wires anyway? the car has 106,XXX miles. Also, should coil packs be changed?. I've yet to pull the plugs..ah procrastination, but looked at them and they seem like a ***** to get out on the radiator side...didn't look at the back, i was more interested in changing those POS headlight bulbs.

Flashing check engine light per the FSM's mean that there is a potentially catalyst damaging condition occuring.

Typically it's a misfire of sorts.

What plugs, wires and coils are on the car? Seems like you are getting issues at high rpm. MSD coils are known for this (red and say msd on them)
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Coil packs are not known for going out. Just like everyone said pull the plugs and don't hotrod it till you do otherwise you might face the dreaded rebuild mod.

100,000 mile tune-up includes plugs and wires. Do them. Check your air intake filter, replace it any way you like. Replace your fuel filter. Then see how it runs.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Engine is perfectly fine during normal or even rough driving, it starts right up and drives normal. Just under high speed.. Try driving with 3100k bulbs in a lighthousing whos reflectors are outdone by ones on a bicycle you get from wally world .. I just got this car 1k miles ago, but it looks completely stock...except 2 12in subs and a massive amp in it, professionally installed atleast. Beleive it or not, rock sounds good with the ghetto blasters . Also this may be dumb, but would a dirty air filter be the problem? It had a new one at 86k. ALSO, previous owner stated he replaced the MAF sensor, if that is of any use
