Synthetic Oils

What does everone use as far as oil goes and why?

Ive always been told that if you use non synthetic oils for a 50k miles or more in a car you cant go to full synthetic, but ive been reading up on this and i am seeing several different answers. all the sites from oil distributors obviously say use full synthetic, but im getting a 50/50 from non oil sites.

my opinion: oil is oil is oil. other peoples opinion: OMG ROYAL PURPLE, THEY USE IT IN RACE CARS AND THEY HAVE COMMERCIALS.

seriously, i put relabeled junk store brand oil in my car and it ran like a top.

i usually use mobil 1 synthetic, or atleast i like to. but ill use just about anything with a known name.

ya oil is oil...but ive noticed that my mobil 1 syntethic maintained its viscosity better than conventional valvoline.

no matter what oil i use, i always change it at 3000 miles so why waste my money on expensive oil that im just going to throw away?

Pfft...I gave up on Mobil...and I use Valvoline VR1 20-50 racing oil.

It wins.

I use valvoline or whatver else.

Just never pensoil, EVAR.

and a good filter helps.

I change it every 2k miles, so to me it dont matter.(i drive less than 7k a year)

well unfortunately i do know for a fact working with racebikes and testing different oils on dynos just to sqeeze out every last bit of hp that certain oils are better than others. this is on very high compression motors. per my personal experience with dyno time on HIGH COMPRESSION RACEBIKES (13:1 for example) will yield .07 to .1 hp at the rear wheel and allows for a quicker revving motor. but once again this is on very high compression motors where every last bit of power is needed. i do infact use royal purple on my racebike, but i use non synthetic in everything else.

the biggest debate i found online was if you use non synthetic then the rings seat to a certain slipperyness (if thats even a word), then you add something more slippery then you get oil getting past the rings. i also drive roughly 1800 miles a month

This is funny, I use Valvoline synthetic in the two newer GPs and the Camaro but in the older higher mileage GPs I use Valvoline conventional or synthetic (I switch on the older cars, whatever goes on sale and I will buy a few cases at a time).

I run Pennzoil High Mileage which is a synthetic blend along with a premium oil filter. Ive always been a firm believer in "you get out what you put in"

I run GM's new Dexos oil. I work at a dealership so it's readily available to me.

We finally got our literature on that stuff last week (thanks GM) I'm gonna read up on it a little more. I just can't believe they're putting it in everything, including the D-Max.

I change every 2,500 so like said above as long as its a known name Im good. Im more picky about my filters. I stay far far far away from Fram tho
