Re-check the rockers.
What did you TQ them to?
Also...TTY bolts or CC Re-Useable ones?
I reused the stock bolts and tq to 24lbft, I ordered new cc reusable bolts should get them tomorrow, and plug wires is a good thought!! I will have to get the stockers out and put them on to see if its them, rather wires than the tear down!
Your not supposed to use TTY bolts....minus the crank and cam bolt.
lulz.
In all reality, there probably isn't an issue with reusing the stock bolts or springs that is going to cause him an issue like this.
I would rather think you have a vacuum leak or problem with the plugs and wires.
I had a rocker get loose...like the bolt was jsut finger tight...and it had play in it.
When I'd get on it...it'd studder.
I know that if you don't clean the oil out of the bolt holes, it can get tight and to the torque limit. Then as the oil seeps up through the threads, it will get loose.
I always make sure to spray the holes out with an air hole. Then pour in a little alcohol, clean with a Q-tip, and spray out again. This makes sure the bolt holes are clean and I get a good torque reading and the bolts don't come loose over time.
Take a die grinder...cut a line in the side of the threads...then run it down...and then back it out. Does what a Q-Tip does and so much more![]()
There shouldn't be any dirt in there. I just use the q-tip to move the alcohol around a bit that I dumped in so it evaporates a little faster. And it does get some more oil residue out. But running a makeshift tap down through threads that don't need tapped isn't going to do anything. Unless you dumped dirt down there or something.
What is your reasoning behind it?
Because there is thread sealant on those bolts from the factory. You'd be amazed at how much gunk comes out of the threads even after using a Q-Tip.
I wish I had pictures of my buddy's rocker install...nastysauce.
I never clean the holes. I like them dirteeeee. Honestly, I never clean them. I do rotate the motor a bit and retorque though. There shouldn't be any oil in the bolt holes. ...Right?
Because cutting a bolt is free![]()
Don't judge.
Your jealous.
so i just changed my plug wires and that didnt fix it, BUT the aeroforce doesnt say its a misfire?? it could be a plug but it should show a miss right?? i also received my new bolts and gaskets today so hopefully this weekend i get time to rip it apart again!! cutting a bolt is a good idea but id need a qtip to get all that shiz out lol and yes stock springs i thought about valve float but thats at higher rpms, and it does it before 4k sometimes so??
I'd recheck the bolts. Get em replaced and tq'd down and see what happens.
And nick... We haven't done my car yet so lord knows how nasty it's gonna be. You remember what we found under my spoiler lol.
So last night on my way to work I got 4 codes!! P0069, P0300, P0420, P0228. So today in this heat I decided to pull the plugs and check them and guess what I found, cylinders 1-3-5 plugs looked like the iridium tips had melted!! So I replaced the plugs with my spare BRISK plugs and she runs strong now!! Now my problem is passing emissions I think the high flow cat (magnaflow) is scrap for passing, so now I have to replace the 3" with the stock dp then hope it passes!!
