So i started the gtp today and noticed that the tach said 0 rpms and also noticed that my tcs light was on. Before anybody asks, yes the car was running and i didnt press the button. This happened before but didnt think anything of it. What could be the problem between the two? THANKS btw its a 00 gtp with 94,000 on the ticker with no ses lights on.

Crankshaft position sensor, It's behind the harmonic balancer.

Mine would drop rpms to zero while driving, sometimes stalling.

its not hard the PITA part is getting the harmonic balancer bolt off.

I used a Lisle Harmonic Balancer Puller for GM and it worked perfect.

did you get it put on? what bolts did you use? seems like the 1/4x28x3 is not big (round) enough, could I have a different harmonic balancer?

no, you are not lining the bolt up right, it is kinda hard to find the hole on the first time.

Same thing with my car. Been doing this for a while, now having a problem with it shutting off, sometimes it starts right up other times it takes 10 to 30 minutes. Run a DTC scan, came back with PO336 crank position sensor circuit, range or performance problem. Have the part but need the correct puller. This does answer the tach and tcs problem. Thanks

It's a common issue. Eventually the car will start stalling on you and then, like mine did, will leave you stranded. It's not that difficult to change but it would help if you had access to a lift like I had. You'll need balancer puller, I just went to Advance and got one, and you'll need the 1/4x28x3 bolts that did not come with the puller. Make sure that you get the bolts aligned correctly, it's kind of tricky, and also the center puller blot where it goes into the crank, I used a socket to keep it from messing up the threads for the balancer bolt. Once the balancer is off you can take it from there. Good luck.
