So i've been searching for a week how to fix this problem. My windows are down and i need them up along with not being able to start my car.

The problem is that i cannot turn the key either direction in the ignition. The ignition is stuck in the off position.

I removed the white solenoid which locks the key in and it did not make a difference. I tried jiggling the key for hours, i tried turning the wheel and shifting the through the gears of the transmission, i do not know what to do. I am guessing that it is the ignition lock cylinder.

I have most the dash and trim around the steering wheels off. Do i need to take off the steering wheel to replace that part?
    - Any tips/info/solutions would be much appreciated..Thankyou

if the key is hard to push in the lock i'd try some graphite lock spray. if its just the tumbler being dry it should help.

sadly the only way to get the tumbler out is if the key is turned to run, theres a hole you push a pick into on the top of the column and then you pull the tumbler out with the key in it still.

It's usually the white solenoid holding the key in, can be released by removing it/replacing it or shoving something up the hole under the column to release it.
    OR could be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rHb...uDCZN23FRqKVf4=

this how to gets you to the tumbler and the lock solenoids. http://www.sparkys-answers.com/2009/...-changing.html

it says 2002 gp, but its all the same, my 98 regal was the same too. used this myself to change my harness.

Ill try again tomorrow.is the lock solenoid the white thing that has a piece of metal that comes in and out?the weird thing is when i took the plastic off the column that white thing was plugged in but just hanging there,i put it where itngoes and no change.that metal pin like thing does move freely still

Is there a cable that runs to the shifter on the GPs? My Bonnie was stuck, and ended up removing the cable from the ignition switch and success. Just a thought.
