I have a 97 Grand Prix GT and for the last few months it has been doing something strange. On rare occasions it will decide not to let me take the key out of the ignition. I have taken it into the shop twice and both times they have been perplexed because they could not replicate my problem. Any ideas?

there is a solenoid in the column that likes to stick, most guys wrap a tie wrap around it to keep it depressed (there is a hole under the column to stick something through to depress it)

--- remove the top of the center console and inspect any/all wiring that connects to the shifter. the shift interlock is wired here, and sometimes the wiring to the switch on the shifter can become worn/damaged by the shifter movement. the switch here could also be starting to fail.... somewhat common problem on these vehicles.
