Interesting thought. I considered buying a newer GP (2003). There are a couple of GT models in my neighborhood for sale at GM dealers with appreciably less kms on them, and no apparent rust. I was so close to going in to buy a blue one, pretty much fully loaded (leather, sunroof, two tone interior). It's a beauty. But, I think it makes more financial sense to lease a new car, especially with lease rates where they are than it does to spend $7,000 on a 10 year old car that I really don't know much about.
But, getting a '97 for almost nothing might be worth looking into!
I want to thank you guys for the suggestions, especially looking at the condition of the strut towers. I don't know a lot about cars, how they work and how to fix them. I'm starting to learn by watching videos and reading online. I'm going to write down the suggestions everyone here made and go into the body shop to see what they say. And perhaps I'll look into getting another '97 or '98, if the right one comes up.
