Hey i just bought a 2000 grand prix gtp and love it. It does have a little rust though. The biggest spot being a 2 x 2 " spot under the gas door. It's not deep at all and was thinking how much it would cost to be professionaly done. Thanks

i've got the same thing. i don't really know how much it is to get it fixed but i know the paint afterwards is going to be a big variable, $300-$600 for something decent and maybe $100-$300 for amateur, maaco, or like JVS or auto tech schools. i'd start by looking at schools and stuff if money's tight. i know one where i used to live that would paint for free if you bought the paint, you'd be surprised what you can find. sorry i can't help out much more than that though
for a professional to do it, they will repaint the whole rear panel, this way it matches better, trust me i know about rust, it sucks.. im fixing all of mine and repainting and so far im maybe 1500 in right now.. sure beats the 4 g i was quoted, oh and im doing a GT body conversion at the same time lol
Generally if we, shop, were to do this. If the customer would allow it we would shape a peice of 20ga. cold rolled steel into a patch pannes and carfully stich weld it inplace. Otherwise it would probably end in a qtr. pannel replacement.
As far as paint generally you would be looking at the following if the qrt was replaced.
P/R/B QTR with a blend into the sail pannel or roof line depending on where the qtr was joined.
P/B Rear Door
P/B Decklid
P/B RearFascia
The P/B means paint and blend so basicly prep the pannel. Throw some color on it for blending into the exsiting paint and then clear the entire pannel.
P/R/B meaning paint, repair and blend. generaly high cost due to the repair work that would be needed where the new qtr pannel meets the old in the sail pannel aswell as a little filler/bodywork over the resistance spotwelds.
Shop will put on a quarter panel for under 300 ?
the rust is right under the gas door, but above the quarter panel so that wouldnt help. Im just trying to hear opinions on how much it would cost from a shop to repair.
