I put some HEET in for the cold as well. Never had a problem even at -11°F (real temp) but why not, it's $1.77 a bottle.
PS was whining because its so cold.. thought i something more under the hood for a second..
My car never whines or make's odd noises when it starts up in the super cold.
It's just really loud overall, intake is loud, exhaust is all funky with the high idle and stuff because it's trying to get warm.
As long as the engine internals don't make any noise who cares. I don't get a single tap, click, or knock starting it at -12°F. Just that power steering whines like mad for a minute or less depending on how cold it is. And this is coming from a pump that's so quiet during normal operation you'd think I have electric steering assist.
Drove.
Complained a bit about how cold it is out. Laughed a bit at the Tercedes I allude to in my sig. But it started right up too after men's group, which has me impressed. Even did some doughnuts in reverse.
change or flush your PS fluid...sounds like its got moisture in it....my beater dodge does it anytime it gets below freezing....
Got into a race with a Dodge charger from a local car club. Murder she wrote lol.

My fluid is new as of 6 months ago, and it doesn't get foamy as far as I know. I've checked it and I got little to none. I do have a leak but it's very slow and was up to the proper level on the cold mornings when it made the noise. I think the fluid is just so thick when it's that cold. It only makes noise once it's below like 5°F
Plowed through a snow drift that was up to the headlights because the plow guy hasnt come to plow me out since it snowed 3 days ago.
Rotated tires on a 99 sable and diagnosed the "wobbly feeling" as a bad ball joint.
The end links are garbage on those Taurus's and Sable's too... I worked at a dealership when they were new and we'd get cars with a less than five thousand miles on them "clunking"... Idk what year they switched to plastic, but that was another mistake by Ford...
