do the radioshack thungs work?
Most work but it's a bandaid. I would fix the problem instead if I was you. Couple of things I would do is, run power wire and rca's on opposite side of each other, make sure your ground is on bare metal(sand down if have to) and replace you rca cables. Also I dont know where your amp is mounted but if your amp is screwed down and the screw is touching metal that an do it too. Hope you get it fixed I know how frustrating it is. I have had a TON of noise from this car. Almost as bad a a Saturn.
I always run my RCAs on the Opposite side of the car from the power wire. THat was a llesson learned a while back. I could try different RCA Cables. The Amp is mounted to the Back of my Box and I will try sanding the paint off from under the screw for the Shock tower
Btw, what kinda of amp is it? Some amps are just noise prone. And if you bought it used it could just be a bad amp. Kinda hard to say. Good luck
I had a killer system with JLs in my 2001 that I just sold. NO noise.
1) Always run hot and remote wires down passenger side
Run RCAs down driver side away from catalytic converter heat.
2) Never run cheap RCAs. Spend $100 and get good ones. That's where your sound comes from.
3) Get capacitor caps and run them inline between amp and battery. This will store the power you need when playing high volume and subs are hitting hard. No capacitor = weak sterios, lights blinking, excessive alternator drain which can lead to noise.
4) Ground each amp separately. You can connect the hot wire to one amp, then cut a foot or so, and go on to another amp, ect. But don't do this with the grounds. Run them separately.
Hope this helps.
I disagree with your last 2 statements. Caps or batteries wont help engine whine at all. As for seperate grounds, I have run upwards to 6-8 amps from one single ground using 0gauge wire and never had an issue. Now in this car I running 3 amps atm and the all run from the rear tower bolt with no issues. But I gotta give ya props on choosing JL![]()
Well, considering I installed everything myself, and no noise was present, I'm about 110% I did everything right. I didn't say caps would prevent engine noise. I was trying to say by not using them, your causing excessive drain on battery which causes the alternator to kick out juice that it's not meant to be kicking out. And yes, that can lead to noise. About the grounds. The correct way to ground is to ground each component separately. At least, that's the way we did it when I worked at Car Tronics out there in Rivergate.![]()
