    Hi all,

I have a 04 GT2 - fully loaded with steering wheel controls. I'm looking to replace my factory stereo to something like this Sony XNV-660BT. There are many other brands similar to this one, but i'm using it as an example.

I'm comfortable doing this kind of work, but i have few questions:
    - Any recommendation on such unit with similar functionality?
    - there many listing on ebay for similar no brand units, anyone have experience with them?
    - what would i need to get the job done? harness..etc

    You feedback is much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Pretty nice head unit.

I'm going to be installing a Pioneer AVH-P3300BT into my 05 GT w/monsoon. This deck doesn't come standard with GPS however you can add on GPS for around $250 if ever needed so I like that option.

Also, it has a similar 6" screen, USB, aux input AND SD/SDHC card slot in front.

The SD slot makes this Pioneer a standout for me because I can stick a 64GB card into my deck and hold a sh*t load of music/movies without even having to plug an mp3/iPod/iPhone in.

Things you will need for sure:
    - $100- Axxess ASWC -Steering Wheel Control Adapter
    - $100- Metra's GMOS-04 - GM Class II data bus interface (retains OnStar/chimes/DIC) if you have a Bose/Monsoon system. PITA!!!
    - $15- Mounting Kit for your Double-DIN (2004-UP Grand Prixs)
    - $10- Antenna Adapter (1986-UP GM)
    - A lot of time and patience to rewire/cram everything in behind the dash!

Any more questions just hit me up! Good Luck!!

thats the part that drives me crazy... $300-$400 for a HU and then $130 in misc parts for installation. Thats one spicy meatball!

first off, i would use the pac parts for the car instead of the metra parts i have had way better experience with them if you have onstar use OS2C-bose if not use the C2R-GM24, and for steering wheel controls use the SWI-RC, as for the indash itself check out the kenwood stuff, the DDX-318 and DDX-418 are identical but the 418 adds built in BT and has a 6.1 inch screen, can add the KNA-G610 for nav... kenwood uses GARMIN, look for a refurb nav to save money, they are pretty much brand new as it is, i sell them at my shop in detroit, if you want an all in one with nave built in look at the DNX-6980 kenwood excelon, built in GARMIN nav with traffic tuner built in BT both that and the 418 model do A2DP and phone calls, voice dialing etc, ipod operation is exceptional as well

    thats some good info!
Ive never worried about nav, i won a free garmin once from work..having BT however would be super handy as we have distracted driver laws in this province.

Hey Digital i have that exact head unit in my o4+ and i used the metra harness for the monsoon system. it ended up costing me about 120 in parts (86ed the antenna adapter i dont listen to the radio) but as far as the unit its ok except for two things.
    1. the ipod controls suck ass. the directory is a pain because u cant scroll \or jump through the music and once uve found one song and want to look for another after that one has ended u must search from the beginning again
2.the seperate navi unit needs to be mounted in a easy accessable location

Other than those two i love the BT for calling and for playing music off my phone
The Garmin with the Lane Guidance is great and u can edit some things on the maps from the unit like if a speedlimit is wrong or something

No problems with the Metra harness right^

I like how it auto-programs compared to the manual PAC programming.

Also dip, the only thing you lose on the DIC was your calendar?

the swi-rc is very easy to program its nice to have the ability to program yourself so you can customize the controls, and there is a programmer available for it that most retailers have for installs, and as far as the kenwood screens that i talked about they have the easiest ipod controls available and if you have an iphone4 has an app mode feature allowing you to use apps like netflix and pandora radio and gps apps to display right on your screen

ahhh it does however the pioneers use a 3 wire cable that costs more, and the bluetooth doesnt offer a2dp music streaming, and has a smaller screen pioneer has a 5.8 inch and the kenwood has a 6.1 inch screen, the only thing the pioneer 3300 does have that the kenwood 418 doesnt have is the fact that it has 3 4v preouts and the kenwood has 2 4v preouts

I agree with you chrome! That is also a huge reason I chose Pioneer over Kenwood's so I can hook up my interface and subwoofer amp through the preouts.

It would be cool if Kenwood had 3 sets and an SD slot? (Maybe it does but I don't see it or read it on spec sheets) and the .3" screen size difference is also notable.

At the $450 price point its really up to individual style and preference. I plan to load a 64GB SD card with music/movies and have at it every time my HU fires up rather than even mess with my iPod/iPhone, but for those of you who prefer music streaming via Pandora w/o a direct input you may love Kenwood!

no the kenwood doesnt have an sd slot however the front usb input is not just for ipod, also reads from thumb drives or portable hard drives, the other advantages the kenwood has is that if you use the internal amp kenwood runs 22 watts rms, vs. pioneer 17 rms, im preferable to kenwoods mainly because i sell them and have not every had an unhappy customer with just about any kenwood product ive sold, im going to be putting the DNX9980hd in my car, along with either a rockford or JL audio system, im still debating on going all out with a full custom install or a simple install with a 5 channel amp my only reason for thinking small and simple is to save weight and space to go faster
