hey guys im planning on redoing my system. I have been interested in a while in porting the rear deck to get some of the bass thats trapped in the trunk up to the front of the car. My question is i have seen to basic designs. The first being just putting holes by the rear speakers so the bass can sort of vent through like...
    .

The second is building a box that actually ports through the rear deck.

Would either of these be worth it?? The 1st idea would be much easier considering I will already have a premade box

    Bandpass!

Build a bandpass box and have it port directly into the cabin.

The second build is stupid because only the lowest frequencies are coming into the cabin and the higher ones are trapped in the trunk still.

The first one is a fail because its a horrible bandpass box.

Either bandpass or mount the subs right where the holes are and mount the box on the bottom side.

I wouldnt want to do a bandpass. I am using 2 12" Kicker L7's and i dont believe they are recomended by kicker.

Get the T/S specs and model it in WinISD or Unibox and see what you come up with. Just because its not recommended doesnt mean its not possible.

If done properly it will sound better than any sub just sitting in the trunk.

Kicker L7's love bandpass boxes just have someone who knows how to design boxes design it cause it's easy to get port noise. I would get a professional box design from PWKdesigns. I need to get some pics of my PWK fourth order in my GP. Its sealed to the cabin so there is no trunk rattle and no wasted money on deadener besides that it looks so clean with the trim plate on the back, kinda like a GTO's trunk.

or do a box like this

Or you could attempt to learn something instead of paying someone for something which doesnt take much time at all..

Yeah you could design it yourself screw it up waste about fifty bux in materials or spend the money and get it right the first time.

haha i think you might have gotten confused. The first idea was just putting sort of "vent" in the rear deck lid to allow more sound through (not incorporating it into the box design). The second idea is making a entirely new ported box where the vent extends through the rear deck lid. the bandpass idea seems pretty complicated, I have made a few boxes though

Why not use the pass threw in the back seat? If you wanted to vent the trunk just take the rear speakers out. I wouldn't try to port the box threw the rear deck it just complicates tuning. I'm not saying it can't be done but I've never had any luck with aero ports into threw the rear deck.

ok...would the first idea be worth it aka adding ports next to the speakers to get more sound in?

Yeah that would actually create a horrible bandpass box.

The second idea is also stupid because the higher frequencies would be lost in the trunk.

Bandpass isn't complicated if you use software to model the frequency response first.

Sorry how much does it cost to have someone design a box for you?

Better yet, how incompetent do you have to be to mess up a box if you have a forum with people to ask for help along the way?

Because both of those create stupid and uncontrolled bandpass enclosures.

The reason those ports don't work is the same reason using the passthrough doesn't work and the same reason the rear 6x9's doesnt work.

No. What would be worth it would be completely opening up the rear deck, but then again, making a bandpass box would be slightly less permanent.

ok so if i went the bandpass route how would i go about that. From the above diagram it looks like the speakers sits internally... how do i get the size specs for it?

get the theile small specs of your sub from the manufacturer's website

You'd need the exact model number of your subs.

Also, to retain the most use of your back seats, going through the rear deck instead of the rear pass through would be better. If you don't care, go through the rear pass through.

you basically have to design your own box.

So if you're not willing to do that, see that website up there ^

lawl so many crappy setups pictured there.

Installing the subs outside the box is STUPID, you basically get maybe 10 L more box size (which is useless for a box that large) while sacrificing the safety of your subs. **** can get in the gap now because the vented motors are pointing up, and **** tends to fall down.

Matt5112, how would putting the holes in the rear deck create a bad bandpass jw?

the sub box would be the first enclosure and the trunk would become the outer section with the port being the holes in the rear deck.

Most likely. It is possible if you make the hole large enough it'd be fine but how its supposed to work is the hole's circumference should match the total circumference of the subs you're using.

alright one more question, if the second idea was set up as a vented box not a bandpass would it work and be louder than a traditional vented box?
