Hey guys do you think this setup is good?

I'm really not worried about having the cold air come in...I just wanna hear the blower. If I put the cone where I drew it at in the pic below would any problems happen? I know that I would be taking in hot air, but I hear that hot air gives more miles per gallon. I'm not a big racer or anything...

    Thanks!

ebay has kits for cheap, which would eliminate those silencers on the tubing as well, if all you want is a nicer noise, not to mention making it easier to seal the system and make sure no dirt gets in. Just be sure they have a hole for the intake temp sensor

you would also be best to go to the local junkyard and pick up a coolant reserve tank off a 99-03 gp to allow a little more flow/space for the filter, and at least have some airflow from behind the headlamp

If you just want a HAI I would run the filter right off the throttle body and mount the the sensor on the filter.

^^ THAT...or just get a ebay intake...they are like $20-$30 bucks...only thing I would do also is a T-Stat...get yourself a 180* from a local auto parts store for like $10...also get rid of the crappy filter they give you in the kit and get a K&N Just my 2 cents but you said you didn't care so the one they give you will be fine...

I noticed you have a 97 or 98 because of the coolant overflow placement. You would have a hard time getting a filter to fit in that space. I dont know if the intake tube could turn down a little and maybe give you a little more room. You may be able to get one of the smalller cone filters to fit in there. The radiator hose is really close and would probably lay on it.
You could make a cheap FWI with some sewer pipe ,a reducer boot, and roof vent splashing. There have been alot of write-ups on how to do this.

Hey guys...I went to the Autostore and purchased a small cone filter...its 3 inches wide at the mouth but short. It fits perfectly and is resting inside the filter box and not touching the radiator hose. I'm noticing a big difference in performance...not so much in whine noise...just a lil bit. My engine temp is still the same! So why am I not getting a lot of whine? Does the filter have to be long like the normal ones are or does it have to do with the stock tubing that I am using?

    The filter looks like this:

Did you bolt it to the end of the stock intake piping? Just bolt it straight to the TB...that'll give you some more whine

at one time i had my set up like your top pic. i had the stock tubing connected to a 20$ cone and had it right under the hose and kind of leaning against the shield near the fans. i noticed a decent amount more whine from stock. i eventually took the air box out and stock the cone where the box was. i plan on getting some metal tubing soon. heard metal tubing makes more noise. but it's already louder then stock. plus around 2 more mpg.

How do I bolt it up to the TB? It doesn't look like there would be enuf room and where would the MAF sensor go?

the MAF is part of the throttle body. you can buy a 3" cone filter and shove it on the end of the throttle body and be good. just zip tie sensor that is in there, which is the air intake temp sensor, anywhere near the filter and youll be fine.

i couldn't do it like that because there wasn't enough room. i think with a bend right of the TB you could put it right off the bend. when i tried it was hitting two metal things that looked like hoses. think its part of the braking system? that might be what he meant by enough room.
