Hey guys, basically what I am trying to figure out is what all is necessary for a cam install job on a 04 GP Comp-G. I've narrowed down my cam choice to either a VS or an S1x and i plan on doing the install myself over about a few days next month during my spring break. I know i'll need springs, but i'm talking more totally inclusive besides just engine hardware. Specifically, what gaskets, bolts, chains, etc are needed?

    I found this Installation guide,
    http://www.3800pro.com/forum/cams-he...-l67-tech.html

But this is for a 98 L67 so i wanted to see if anybody knows any differences in what i will need and if possible, any different steps that i would have to take with the L32 and how it's layed out. I know it's basically the same motor, but i wanted to make sure before i start tearing it down based on that guide and find out something major is different.

Also, i've read through about 20 older threads in the last few days about cam choices and i know it's pretty much all personal preference. But just for giggles....

    VS Or S1x?

My preference is S1X, again.. preference though.

You'll find preferences on that list too. My list in car cam:
    Reusable rocker bolts
Proper retainers (zzp modded or intense ls style)
    valve cover gaskets with grommets
    LIM gaskets
    SC gasket
    TB gasket
TB cleaner (may as well make it clean while it's off)
    Valve springs
    Timing cover gasket
timing chain (single or double depending on springs, double crank gear needs to be fixed)
    Engine assembly lobe
    Brake cleaner

I reuse the cam and crank bolt. Again, it's preference.

Out of the car, I'd add a lower conversion set in place of the timing cover gasket. Do the rear engine cover gasket and pan gasket at the same time.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I plan on doing it with the engine in the car, through the wheel well. I also plan on painting my valve covers and supercharger while they're off the car so i'm looking to take my time with it.
One last question, 105# springs for the S1x are the preferred route I gather from the forum. Double roller or single roller timing chain with that?

If you are using 105 springs, just get a new stock chain and dampner. Personally, I would go with 130's and a double roller.

Also, never use a single roller.

    Overkill SBC cam

But I'd go S1X over the VS. You'll enjoy both but the S1X is the cool kid cam.

Springs and chain choices with the S1X are more debatable, you want whatever you'd use for an XP cam as well, which means you'll need modded retainers, and while I'd go LS6 springs and stock chain/tensioner, you'll get plenty of 130s and double roller recommendations due to concerns over the stock chain tensioner lifespan. And then you have to worry about double roller chain stretch especially if you don't fix the crank gear. The SBC or VS cams I'd run L92 valve springs and a stock chain and tensioner, and worry less about longevity.

After more research I am pretty sure im going to go with the VS cam, just for the fact that this is my dd 14000 mile a year car. Less wear on the valvetrain and not having to change my timing chain again in 40k miles seals it. That and since I would get more fun out of the great low torque of the VS makes it a win. So a ton of gaskets, new springs (probably the ls6 springs) retainers to be safe, reuse cam bolt, and new stock chain and dampener. Anything else recommened? Should I worry about 42# injectors with a VS and probably a 3.0 pulley? I run E85 btw.

You will run out of injector. I ran out with VS cam on a 3.1 pulley on 93 octane.
