Went to start my car today and it fired up normally ran for about 3 seconds and died when I used the gas pedal. Now it will not start at all. The battery has plenty of juice, and it cranks fine, just won't fire up. It turned on the check engine light, so I walked to Advance and got a cheap DTC reader. P0102 came up. Tried disconnecting the MAF sensor just to check and it makes no difference. Car won't start with it unplugged either. Checked underhood fuses, all are fine. Walked to Advance AGAIN, and bought a MAF sensor, replaced it, and it made no difference. man. More than a little annoyed at my car. What else could it be? Any help is massively appreciated.

Idk if this happens with the GP or not, but I had this issue once with my monte... a wire behind the ignition cylinder had come loose... I think it was related to the chip in the key or something. I don't remember exactly what the wire was... luckily, a cousin of mine worked for GM for years and knew what it was. 2 starters later, both changed in sub-0 degree weather in a Chicago winter, and my problem was solved by installing a new lock cylinder.

Any way to simply check for that? I don't know if my car even has a chip in the key, lol. Doesn't look like it.

    Fuel Resistor?

I am not a person that shoud be giving advice about getting your car started seeing how I fighting with mine too, but I have been searching on this for a couple of days, but have read the GTP has this issue frequently hope this helps!

Sounds like you are getting no fuel. The 3 seconds it ran would be about the amount of fuel in the rails from the prime. Check the fuel pump resistor. Or better yet, do you hear the fuel pump whine for 2-3 seconds when you turn the key to the on position? Press the schrader valve on the fuel rail (cover it w/a rag) and see if fuel squirts from the rail.

If you have fuel, then we need to check for spark.

And no, you do not have a chip in your key for security.

Fordman and Millertime yall are my heroes right about now. I check what Fordman was saying and I do not hear the fuel pump when I key it on. I pushed on the schrader valve and it was bone dry, no fuel. My next question is what the fuel pump resistor is and how I check it. Thanks again.

If you turn the key on/off and have no fuel, it's not the resistor. The resistor when bad with key off/on will give you about 3 seconds of runtime each time you turn the key off/on again.

Check your fuel pump fuse for starters

Checked the fuse (actually checked all the fuses in the underhood box) and its good. I don't know how to check the relays in that fuse box though. Would a relay even cause this sort of issue?

is there anything else I should be checking? I mean is there a way to check if the pump itself is bad without pulling it out of the tank. I've never done that so it sounds a little intimidating lol.

try wacking the fuel tank with a rubber mallet as someone turns the car over.

The relay would be tough to diagnose..because it's a single click... but if you don't hear the fuel pump. Test teh gray wire at the pump for power.

Electrical stuff is really what I'm weakest at when it comes to cars. Testing for power requires a multimeter right? Do you need to strip the wire to test it? Or will the meter read it through the insulation? I have a sneaking suspicion that the question I just asked may sound stupid...

You can test for power with a simple light bulb. I love corner lights because they are 194 bulbs that have tabs on them you can bend straight to use in a pinch. Ground one side to metal of the car that isn't painted and put the other side to the believed power.

99...no, that's for the resistor trick. He's not getting any fuel at all. When a GTP's fuel system primes, the pump uses high speed (bypasses resistor) and primes the cylinders with the key being turned on. It'll fire up and run for 2-3 seconds then sputter and die as the fuel runs out. It runs out because after prime..the pump would start running on low speed (resistor) once the engine began running.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks for clearing that up Bill. I want to make sure I understand correctly about using a corner light. To test for power at the fuel pump I would open the fuel pump trap door thats behind the rear seat, strip a section of the grey power wire that goes to the pump, touch one tab of the bulb to the chassis and the other tab to the stripped section, and check for light?

Got it so no pin trick. Is my understanding of voltage testing accurate? (see my previous post)

I don't think that starting fluid would help. There is no pressure in the fuel rails.

it will run off the starter fluid if its got spark, and if it fires you know you have spark.
