With just a intake? You need ATLEAST a down pipe 3.3 IMO. With headers- 3.0/2.9
This is assuming its a s2 IC

Other things you really should do other then The intercooler is ported LIM and blower, 104 autolite spark plugs, and headers.

if you do go down a size, only go to a 3.4... The intercooler is a great investment, I have the S2 from zzp and love it (dont get the short stack its a waste of money). But with just an IC, its really not gonna do a whole lot for your car until you get some flow mods (exhaust, cam, rockers, etc...) so I wouldn go that small in pulley size...

and another thing you should get is a scan gauge now in case your IC pump fails so you can see the KR....

As long as it is tuned right...who the hell needz flow mods.

Buddy of mine is running a 3.2" knock free on his '97 with just a short stack...and all he has for supporting mods is a open cone and a catless 3" DP...everything else on that car is BONE STOCK. Just keep in mind GM had a intercooler on the concept GPX back in '96 and it ran down the F-Body with ease at the time...factory pulley was a 3.0" or 3.1"... http://image.motortrend.com/f/161598...GPX+engine.jpg

Note the braided lines above the belt for the IC lines...

If I were you...I'd get the stage 2 intercooler and headers...you'd be set. Also...is it a 97-03 or '04+? Because that'll make a huge difference on the pulley you'll be running. Anything lower than a 3.2" on a 97-03 car you're going to be needing injectors...intercooler and headers on a '04+ car is a 3.4"...done.

KR just tells half the story. Whats his afr whats his timing. Just saying no Kr is very misleading. If you have zero KR and a afr of 10.2 and 13 degrees WOT timing...Then running that pulley size isnt what you want. You want to run the pulley that you can run 11.6-11.8 afr with Atleast 17 degrees timing with little to no KR. Intercooled. Non intercooled id shoot for 11.3-11.5
But Each car is different. And your gonna have to scan and see where your at

Why didnt GM go ahead with the stock intercooled l67 idea? That probably would have solved the whole knock issue.

I was refering to just having the IC with the stock tune... of course with a tune you can get a little more out of it...

oh and stock injectors are good till a 3.1

I was hitting 105 percent injector duty cycle on a 3.4 pully with high compression lol. Id imagine a 3.1 on a gtp would be well into the 100's as well

I don't doubt he is knock free, but I gotta say for an ic'd car I stuck it to him hard with my old 3.4.

I've theorized that a Gen V is as good or better (temp wise) than an SS IC. Costwise, it's something to mention if money is an issue.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Sooo instead of an intercooler, i could just get a gen v blower instead?

no. He was saying because the gen v has cooler out let temps, having that with an ssic would be close to having a gen III with a full size.

Dude, on our write up it says this:

"Also keep in mind that if you do happen to get away with dropping lower than a 3.1”/3.0” pulley, your stock fuel injectors will probably run static (out of fuel) and you’ll need bigger injectors."

By that I also understand that the stock injectors are good enough until a 3.1 pulley.

    Depends on your IDC.

It should be 80% or lower.

Right Juan...lower than a 3.2" you will start to run static...then again, every car is different. That thread is just a basic guideline...and it needs to be re-done...but it still gives the simple way to mod these cars effectively with the knowledge you need.
