When i turn on the car with the MAF sensor plugged in, it stays on for 2-3 minutes, then it starts to jerk and it i try and give it gas its like it doesnt get it. i tried unplugging the MAF sensor and turning it on, it stayed on and didnt turn off, but it was running a little weird. When i got the car it was unplugged but i plugged it in because i thought the last owner forgot or whatever.

What would be the problem? would i have to keep it unplugged? or could there be something done so i can replug it to get my performance back.

if the problem goes away when you unplug the MAF.. its more than likely a bad MAF. Any SES codes?

iirc there are 2 torx bits that hold it onto the throttle body. I don't have a set of security torx bits, (allow for pin in middle of bolt) so I just used a pair of pliers/vice grips and remove to bolts, unplug, plug in new one and re-install to bolts. Could also "reset" PCM afterwards by unplugging battery for ~1/2 hour, then drive normal until car "learns" again.

try cleaning the little wire inside the sesor with some of this.... just DONT touch the wire

CRC electrical parts cleaner, I got mine at Home Depot

You are talking about the IAT sensor. That should not affect drivability that much.

I was talking to the op, who said the sensor was in the intake tube, which is where the IAT sensor is.
