Thread: Engine swap done, problems

Had the alternator tested, siad it was fine. I came home and went over the entire circuit, everything has power that is supposed to have it. So the only thing left is the battery its self I guess. I don't have a tester to do a load test so I'm going to have to take it somewhere. Its a AcDelco battery with a 60 month warranty and its only a year old. So I'm not sure if the place would test it before they replace it or just replace it.

And i cheeked the oil dip stick yesterday and there where some bubbles on it meaning there water in there, so that says Head Gasket but can't a LIM thats not sealed right do the same thing?

Because when I start it up there is no smoke, no puff just a small steady steam out of it doesn't seem to get wrose either if you hit the gas.

No out of the exhaust.

steam out of the exhaust is ok as long as its exhaust. moisture will get into the exhaust especially in these colder months. cup your hand over the exhaust and smell your hand. if it smells like coolant then you probably do have a head gasket leak. buying used motors is always a risk of something being wrong.

Drain the oil and check it for coolant as its draining. in a few more days drain it again and look for coolant. if its clean you should be good, just keep an eye on it.

The smell is coolant, but its only a good stream of it and keep in mind I do live in Florida hot pretty much all the time. It just doesn't do it at start up takes a min or two then it starts to trickle out.


But I am really trying to figure out why the Alternator is not charging the battery. It was checked and turned out fine, all the fuses are good and anything that needs power has it. The last thing that I have not checked is the Cluster. I know the temp guage is not working right becouse it was reading about 180 while the scan tool had it at 215. All the lights do work I know that but I'm wondering if something is burned out inside and if it would make the alternator not charge it.

Also checked the connections on the ABS and all that is fine, but the ABS and TCS lights are on.

a bad battery wont charge. just because the alt checked out fine doesnt mean its not bad.

find someone with a Snap On scan tool or something similar to check the ABS code, did you hook up the wheel speed sensor?

Fixed the Alternator, ABS and TCS lights. Somehow the starter got wired wrong, never thought to check over it since she started just fine.

Anyways the biggest thing left is narrowing down the coolant leak. I did a quick compression test on it, did the front three and the middle back one got 180 on all of them. The motor is running really strong too, so i really hope its not a head gasket. Leaves the LIM and Supercharger, just don't know if i should run it and try to make them seal or remove them are try and re do them somehow. People are always saying the supercharger gasket is a pain so im not sure what they do to get it to seal.

Oh and does anyone know what the % reading should be on the 2nd o2 sensor? The voltage is fine but I'm getting like a 99% reading from it.
